Jaime Federico Said Camil de Saldanha da Gama (born on July 22, 1973) is a famous Mexican actor, singer, and TV host. He is well-known for playing Fernando Mendiola in the TV show La fea más bella. He also played Rogelio de la Vega in the show Jane the Virgin. This role earned him two nominations for a special award called the Critics' Choice Television Award.

About Jaime Camil's Early Life
Jaime Camil was born in Mexico City, Mexico. His father, Jaime Camil Garza, was a businessman from Mexico. His mother, Cecilia Saldanha da Gama, was a singer from Brazil. Jaime studied business at Anahuac University. He also took acting classes in New York, Los Angeles, and Mexico. He even studied classical opera singing in Italy!
Jaime Camil's Amazing Career
Jaime Camil started his career in 1993. He was a radio commentator on Radioactivo 98.5. In 1995, he first appeared on TV as a host. He hosted shows like El show de Jaime Camil and Qué nochecita con Jaime Camil. In 2002, he hosted Operación triunfo. He also co-hosted Aventura por México in 2009. In 2010, he hosted the Mexican version of El Gran Show.
Singing and Music Videos
In 1999, Jaime released his first music album, Para estar contigo. This album helped him tour many cities. He visited places in Mexico, South America, and the United States. After singing in a tribute for 9/11 victims, he released his second album. It was called Una vez más and came out in 2002. Two of his songs, Dime and Muriendo por ti, became very popular. Many of his albums have sold so well that they became "platinum." In 2014, he directed a music video for the first time. It was for the song Perdon by the group Barston.
Acting in Telenovelas
Jaime Camil started acting in telenovelas, which are like long TV dramas. His first role was in Mi destino eres tú in 2000. Then he was in Mujer de madera in 2004. His most famous role was in the romantic comedy La fea más bella (2006–2007). He played "Don Fernando Mendiola" and was nominated for a Best Actor award.
After that, he starred in Las tontas no van al cielo (2009). He then played twins in Los Exitosos Pérez (2009–2010). In 2012, he took on a very challenging role in Por Ella Soy Eva. His character, Juan Carlos, pretended to be an older woman. This role was very memorable. La fea más bella and Por Ella Soy Eva are two of Mexico's highest-rated telenovelas ever. In 2013, he appeared in an episode of Devious Maids.
Jaime Camil's Film Roles
Jaime's first movie was Delfines in 1997. But he really started to get noticed in 2003. He acted in three movies in just one year! These were Puños rosas (2004), Zapata (2004), and 7 Días (2005). For his role in 7 Días, he won an award called the Diosa de plata in 2006. He also starred in romantic comedies like Recien cazado and Regresa.
Jaime has also lent his voice to animated movies. He was the voice of Barry in the Spanish version of Bee Movie. He also voiced Elliot in the Spanish version of Open Season. He is a co-founder of the Short Shorts Film Festival Mexico. He has also acted in short films.
Stage Performances
Jaime Camil loves performing on stage. In 2005, he was in the musical The Mambo Kings on Broadway. He also performed in Latinologues on Broadway. In Mexico, he played Bernardo in West Side Story (2004). He won an award for this role. In 2007, he played Father Silvestre in El diluvio que viene. He won Best Actor awards for this musical. He has also played Captain Hook in Peter Pan (2007) and the Genie in Aladdin (2008). In 2016, Jaime played Billy Flynn in the musical Chicago on Broadway.
Recent TV Roles
In 2014, Jaime started playing Rogelio De La Vega in Jane the Virgin. Rogelio is the biological father of the main character, Jane. He is also a telenovela star in the show.
In 2018, he voiced Panchito Pistoles in Legend of the Three Caballeros. This show is based on an old Disney film. He also voiced Don Karnage in the 2017 DuckTales reboot. In 2019, he voiced Globgor in Star vs. the Forces of Evil.
From 2021 to 2023, he played Doc Lopez and Sergeant Rivera in the show Schmigadoon!. In 2023, he became the host of the CBS game show Lotería Loca. This show is based on a traditional Mexican game.
Jaime Camil's Personal Life
Jaime Camil lives in both Los Angeles and Mexico City. He lives with his wife, Heidi Balvanera, who is a model, and their two children. He has two half-siblings and three step-siblings. Jaime is very good with languages! He speaks Spanish, English, Portuguese, and French. His older step-sister, Issabela Camil, is also an actress and model.
