Jaime Camil (born July 22, 1973) is a famous actor, singer, and TV host from Mexico. He is well-known for his roles in popular TV shows. These include Fernando Mendiola in La Fea Más Bella and Rogelio de la Vega in Jane the Virgin. For his role in Jane the Virgin, he was nominated for two Critics' Choice Television Awards.

Early life and education
Jaime Camil was born in Mexico City, Mexico, on July 22, 1973. His father, Jaime Camil Garza, was a Mexican businessman. His mother, Cecilia Saldanha da Gama, was a Brazilian singer.
Jaime studied business administration at Universidad Anáhuac. He also took acting classes in New York, Los Angeles, and Mexico. He even trained in classical opera in Italy.

Jaime Camil started his career in 1993. He worked as a radio commentator on Radioactivo 98.5.
Hosting TV shows
In 1995, Jaime first appeared on TV as a host. He hosted El show de Jaime Camil. He continued hosting other shows like Qué nochecita con Jaime Camil (1996) and Operación triunfo (2002). Later, he co-hosted Aventura por México in 2009. In 2010, he hosted the Mexican version of the game show El Gran Show. In 2023, he began hosting the CBS game show Lotería Loca. This show is based on lotería, a traditional Mexican game.
Music career and albums
Jaime released his first music album, Para estar contigo, in 1999. This album led him to perform in many cities. He toured in Mexico, South America, and the United States.
In 2002, he released his second album, Una vez más. This album included the hit songs Dime and Muriendo por ti. These songs reached high spots on Billboard's music charts. Several of his albums have sold very well, earning "platinum" status. In 2014, he also directed a music video for the first time.
Acting in telenovelas
Jaime Camil started acting in telenovelas (Spanish soap operas) in 2000. His first role was in Mi destino eres tú. He then appeared in Mujer de madera in 2004.
His most famous telenovela role was Fernando Mendiola in La fea más bella (2006–2007). This role made him very well-known. He was even nominated for a Best Actor award for it.
After that, he starred in Las tontas no van al cielo (2009). He also played twins in Los Exitosos Pérez (2009–2010). In 2012, he took on a challenging role in Por Ella Soy Eva. He played a character who disguised himself as an older woman. Both La fea más bella and Por Ella Soy Eva became two of Mexico's highest-rated telenovelas ever.
Film roles and voice acting
Jaime's first film was Delfines in 1997. In 2003, he starred in three movies in one year. These included Puños rosas, Zapata, and 7 Días. He won an award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in 7 Días.
He has also done a lot of voice acting for animated movies. He voiced Barry in the Spanish version of Bee Movie. He was also the voice of Elliot in the Spanish version of Open Season. Later, he voiced Fernando in The Secret Life of Pets (2016) and Papá in Disney's Coco (2017).
Stage performances
Jaime Camil loves performing on stage. In 2005, he was in the Broadway musical The Mambo Kings. He also performed in Latinologues on Broadway.
In Mexico, he played Bernardo in West Side Story (2004). He won an award for Best Supporting Actor for this role. He also played Father Silvestre in El diluvio que viene (2007), winning Best Actor in a Musical. He has played fun characters like Captain Hook in Peter Pan (2007) and the Genie in Aladdin (2008). In 2016, Jaime played Billy Flynn in the Broadway musical Chicago.
Recent TV and voice roles
From 2014 to 2019, Jaime starred as Rogelio De La Vega in Jane the Virgin. Rogelio is the biological father of Jane and a funny telenovela star.
In 2018, he voiced Panchito Pistoles in Legend of the Three Caballeros. He also voiced Don Karnage in the 2017 DuckTales reboot. In 2019, he voiced Globgor in Star vs. the Forces of Evil. From 2021 to 2023, he played Doc Lopez and Sergeant Rivera in Schmigadoon!.
Personal life and family
Jaime Camil lives in both Los Angeles and Mexico City. He is married to model Heidi Balvanera. They have two children together.
Jaime has two half-siblings and three step-siblings. His older step-sister, Issabela CamilEnglish, Portuguese, and French.
