Story of the Film

In a town called Timberline, there lives a huge grizzly bear named Boog. He weighs 900 pounds! Boog is a pampered bear who is the star of the town's nature show. At night, he sleeps in the garage of Beth, a park ranger who raised him since he was a tiny cub.

One day, a hunter named Shaw drives into town. He has a deer named Elliot tied to his truck. Elliot has only one antler because Shaw hit him. Boog feels bad for Elliot and secretly frees him.

Elliot then follows Boog home and finds him sleeping in his cozy garage. Elliot wants Boog to be "free" from his tame life. He shows Boog how fun it is to eat human snacks. But things get out of control when they raid a convenience store for candy. Elliot escapes, but Boog gets caught by Sheriff Gordy, Beth's friend.

Later, at the nature show, Elliot is being chased by Shaw. Elliot runs to Boog for help. Boog tries to get rid of Elliot because he's annoyed with him. But the audience thinks Boog is attacking Elliot and they panic!

Shaw tries to shoot Boog and Elliot. Luckily, Beth uses a tranquilizer gun to sedate both animals just in time. Shaw runs away before the sheriff can arrest him. Beth realizes Boog is too wild for town life. So, she moves Boog and Elliot to the Timberline National Forest. They are placed above the waterfalls, where hunters won't find them.

Boog has no idea how to survive in the wild. He reluctantly lets Elliot, who is a bit clumsy, guide him back to Timberline. Boog wants to reunite with Beth. But in the forest, they discover that other animals can be quite unfriendly. Boog meets many forest creatures who think he's a loser. These include skunks named Maria and Rosie, ducks Serge and Deni, and many nervous rabbits. There's also McSquizzy, a Scottish-accented squirrel, and his gang. Reilly, a beaver, and his construction crew are there too. Buddy, a porcupine, is always looking for a friend. Finally, there's a herd of deer led by Ian and Giselle, who Elliot has a crush on.

Slowly, Boog learns to take care of himself, and Elliot becomes more confident. They start to become good friends. The next day, Boog finds out that Elliot has been leading them in circles! Elliot had no idea where Timberline was.

They accidentally cause a flood at Reilly's dam. Then, they are confronted by Shaw again. Boog saves his favorite toy bear, Dinkleman, but the current washes it away. They all fall down a waterfall into the hunting grounds.

At first, the animals are mad at Boog, thinking Shaw is dead. But then Boog gets angry at Elliot for lying about knowing the way. Boog storms off and ends up in Shaw's cabin. Shaw is alive! He chases Boog to the city road, where Boog sees the lights of Timberline.

Instead of leaving his new friends, Boog makes up with Elliot. He decides to help the animals fight back against the hunters. They use supplies from an RV owned by Bob and Bobbie, a kind couple looking for Bigfoot. Their pet dachshund, Mr. Weenie, even joins the forest animals!

The next day, Boog leads the animals in a big fight against the hunters. The hunters run away after McSquizzy blows up their trucks with a propane tank. Shaw comes back for one last fight. He shoots Elliot, but Elliot survives, though his remaining antler breaks off. Boog gets super angry and ties Shaw up with his own gun.

The forest animals thank Boog. Then they get their revenge on Shaw by covering him in honey and feathers! Shaw runs away into the woods. Beth arrives in a helicopter to take Boog home. But Boog realizes he has changed. He decides to stay in the forest with his new friends, and Beth agrees.

In a short scene after the credits, Shaw is hit by Bob and Bobbie's RV. They humorously mistake him for Bigfoot and tie him to the top of their trailer!
