James Green (born July 8, 1960) is an American basketball coach. He recently retired in 2024 after coaching men's basketball at Meridian Community College in Meridian, Mississippi. Before that, he was the head coach at the University of Southern Mississippi from 1996 to 2004. He also coached at Mississippi Valley State University from 2005 to 2008, and Jacksonville State University from 2008 to 2016.

Coaching Career Highlights
James Green has had a long and successful career in basketball coaching. He started as an assistant coach at several universities. These included the University of Idaho, Texas A&M University-College Station, University of Alabama, and Iowa State University.
In 1996, he became a head coach for the first time. He led the team at The University of Southern Mississippi. Later, he took on the head coaching role at Mississippi Valley State University.
Coaching at Jacksonville State
In 2008, Coach Green became the head coach for the Jacksonville State Gamecocks men's basketball team. The team had faced some tough seasons before he arrived. They had lost 20 or more games in three of the four previous years.
He was the first Black head coach for a major sport at Jacksonville State University. This was an important moment for the university.
