Jamesport is a small city located in the eastern part of Daviess County, Missouri, in the United States. In 2020, about 559 people lived there. It is well-known for having the largest Amish community in the state of Missouri.

History of Jamesport
A post office first opened in Jamesport in 1857. The city was named after two of its very first settlers. Both of these important people were named James: James Gillilan and James Allen.
Today, Jamesport is famous for being home to the biggest Amish community in Missouri. The Amish are a group of people who live a simple life, often without modern technology.
Geography and Location
Jamesport is found in the eastern part of Daviess County. It is located right on Missouri Route 190, just south of Missouri Route 6.
Nearby cities include Gallatin, which is about nine miles to the southwest. Trenton is about 12 miles to the northeast, in a neighboring county called Grundy County.
The United States Census Bureau says that Jamesport covers a total area of about 0.56 square miles (1.45 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

What the 2010 Census Showed
According to the census taken in 2010, there were 524 people living in Jamesport. These people lived in 230 different homes, and 145 of these were families.
Most of the people living in Jamesport were White (96%). A small number were Native American or Asian. About 3.4% of the population identified as being of two or more races. Less than 1% of the people were Hispanic or Latino.
The average age of people in Jamesport was about 38.4 years old. About 27.5% of the residents were under 18 years old. About 17% of the people were 65 years old or older.
Education in Jamesport
Students in Jamesport attend public schools run by the Tri-County R-VII School District. Younger students (kindergarten through 6th grade) go to Tri-County Elementary School. Older students (7th through 12th grade) attend Tri-County High School.
There are also several private schools in the area. The Jamesport Mennonite School teaches students from 1st to 8th grade. There are also seven Amish schools, including Spring Hill, Country View, Hickory Hill, Meadow View, Oak Grove, Walnut Creek, and a Special Education School. Another private school is the New Order Amish School, called Faith View School.
Jamesport also has a public library where people can borrow books. It is a part of the Daviess County Library system.
Local News
Jamesport has its own local newspaper called the Tri-County Weekly. This newspaper has been sharing local news and stories since 1944.
Famous People from Jamesport
- Phog Allen - He was a famous coach at the University of Kansas. Many people called him the "Father of Basketball Coaching."
- Martha Scott - She was an actress who was nominated for an Academy Award, a very important award in movies.
