How Jan Phyl Village Started
Jan Phyl Village began in 1950 when a man named Harry Lesnick bought a large piece of land. This land was located west of Winter Haven. He decided to name this new area after his two daughters, Janet and Phyllis Lesnick. That's how "Jan Phyl Village" got its unique name!
Early Development and Challenges
Most of the first homes built here were sold to airmen and pilot instructors. These people worked at the nearby Bartow Air Base during the Korean War. When the war ended in 1953, many military activities stopped. This caused a difficult time for the area, and many homes faced financial problems.
Even in 2014, the area still faced some economic challenges. You might have seen some empty stores. However, there are plans to improve things. A program by the Polk Transportation Planning Organization aims to widen major roads by 2030. This would help with traffic and make the area more accessible.
