Jan Schlaudraff's Club Career
Jan Schlaudraff was born in Waldbröl, Germany. He began his professional football journey with Borussia Mönchengladbach. He mostly played as a midfielder for this team. Over two and a half seasons, he played in ten matches in the top German league, the Bundesliga. His first game was on February 19, 2003, where he played for one minute in a 2–0 win against VfL Wolfsburg.
Playing for Alemannia Aachen
In January 2005, Schlaudraff moved to Alemannia Aachen. There, he started playing as a striker again and even became the team's captain. In the 2005–06 season, which was in the second division, he scored 11 goals. This helped his team return to the first division after being away for 40 years.
Even though Alemannia Aachen went back down to the second division after just one season, Schlaudraff's skills caught the eye of a very big club, FC Bayern Munich.
Time at Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich bought Schlaudraff for about €1.2 million. It was tough for him to get playing time there. Famous international players like Miroslav Klose, Luca Toni, and Lukas Podolski were also strikers for Bayern. The coach, Ottmar Hitzfeld, often used Schlaudraff as a substitute. He mostly played as an attacking midfielder.
Schlaudraff's time at Bayern Munich was not easy for him personally. Even though Bayern won the league title in the 2007–08 season, he only played in eight matches. However, he scored many goals in friendly games. For example, he scored seven goals in a match against SV Darmstadt 98. He also scored three goals during Bayern's trip to Asia against the Indonesian national team. Before the season even started, he had scored 15 goals in just five friendly matches.
Moving to Hannover 96
In July 2008, Jan Schlaudraff joined Hannover 96. At this club, he played only as a striker. He scored his first two goals for Hannover on September 14, 2008. This was in a 5–1 home win against his old team, Borussia Mönchengladbach.
On August 18, 2011, Schlaudraff scored both goals for Hannover in their 2–1 win against Sevilla FC in the Europa League. Hannover won the overall match 3–2 and made it to the group stage of the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League group stage.
In June 2015, Schlaudraff left Hannover 96 because his contract ended and was not renewed.
Jan Schlaudraff's International Career
Because of his good performances at Alemannia Aachen, Schlaudraff was chosen to play for the German national team. He made his first appearance in October 2006 in a friendly match against Georgia. He played two more games for Germany until March 2007.
Jan Schlaudraff's Managerial Career
After he stopped playing football, Schlaudraff worked as a scout for a company that represents players. On January 3, 2019, Hannover 96 announced that Schlaudraff was coming back to the club. He started working as an assistant to the sporting director, Gerhard Zuber, for the 2019–20 season. By April 2019, he was already helping to plan the team's players for the next season.
In January 2022, Schlaudraff became the managing director of sports for the Austrian club SKN St. Pölten. He also briefly served as an interim coach for SKN St. Pölten. This happened from October 23, 2023, to December 11, 2023. His first game as interim coach was a 1–1 draw against SV Ried. His last game was a 3–1 win against the reserve team of Sturm Graz.
