Janet Maureen Aoife Devlin (born 12 November 1994) is a singer and songwriter from Northern Ireland. She became famous after appearing on the TV show The X Factor in 2011, where she finished in fifth place.
Since the show, she has released several albums. Her first album was Hide & Seek in 2013. This was followed by Confessional in 2020 and Emotional Rodeo in 2024. Janet is known for her pop, folk, and Celtic music style.
Early Life
Janet Devlin was born in Gortin, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. She is the youngest of four children and has three older brothers. Before she became famous, she lived with her family and went to Drumragh Integrated College.
Before trying out for The X Factor, Janet's only experience with singing was at her school, in local pubs, and at talent shows. She also posted videos of herself singing on her YouTube channel.
Career
The X Factor in 2011
In 2011, Janet auditioned for the eighth series of The X Factor. For her audition, she sang "Your Song" by Elton John. All four judges liked her performance and sent her to the next round. Her mentor on the show was Kelly Rowland.
Janet quickly became a fan favorite. For the first four weeks of public voting, she received the most votes of any contestant. She made it all the way to the quarter-final. After the show, she joined the X Factor Live Tour in 2012, performing in cities across the UK and Ireland.

First Albums: Hide & Seek and Running with Scissors
After the X Factor tour, Janet began working on her first album. She worked with famous producer Eliot Kennedy. To fund the album, she used a website called PledgeMusic. This allowed her fans to contribute money to help make the album.
Her first album, Hide & Seek, was released to her fans in 2013. A year later, she released a new version of the album for everyone, called Running with Scissors. This version had new songs, including the single "House of Cards." It also featured fellow musician Newton Faulkner on the song "Hide & Seek."
Recent Music: Confessional and Emotional Rodeo
Janet continued to release new music, including several EPs (shorter albums). In 2020, she released her second full album, Confessional. Along with the album, she also released a book called My Confessional, which explained the stories behind the songs.
In 2024, Janet released her third studio album, Emotional Rodeo. The first single from this album was also called "Emotional Rodeo."

Janet's music is often described as a mix of pop and folk. She is influenced by artists like City and Colour, John Frusciante, and Nirvana. She writes most of her own songs, often working with other songwriters.
