Jannik Vestergaard (born 3 August 1992) is a professional footballer from Denmark. He plays as a centre-back for Premier League club Leicester City. Jannik also plays for the Denmark national team.
He has played for several clubs in Denmark and Germany. Later, he joined Southampton in England in 2018. Jannik also played for Denmark's youth teams before joining the senior national team in 2013.

Jannik Vestergaard was born in Hvidovre, a suburb of Copenhagen, Denmark. His father is Danish and his mother is German. He grew up in Copenhagen.
Family of Footballers
Jannik comes from a family of footballers. His German grandfather, Hannes Schröers, played for Fortuna Düsseldorf. His uncle, Jan Schröers, played for Bayer 05 Uerdingen. Even his cousin, Mika Schröers, played for Borussia Mönchengladbach's youth teams.
Jannik has a girlfriend named Pernille and a dog named Brady.
Jannik's Club Career
Jannik Vestergaard started playing football at a young age. He played for several youth clubs in Denmark. These included Vestia, Boldklubben Frem, Kjøbenhavns Boldklub, and Brøndby.
Playing in Germany
In 2010, Jannik moved to Germany to join the club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. He made his first professional appearance in a Bundesliga match on 16 April 2011.
Jannik became a regular player for Hoffenheim during the 2011–12 season. He scored his first goal for the club on 11 February 2012.
After playing for Hoffenheim for four seasons, he moved to SV Werder Bremen in January 2015. He played his first game for Bremen on 1 February.

On 11 June 2016, Vestergaard joined Borussia Mönchengladbach. The transfer cost about €12 million. While at Borussia, Jannik played in the UEFA Champions League for the first time.
Moving to England: Southampton
Jannik Vestergaard moved to the English club Southampton on 13 July 2018. He signed a four-year contract with the team. He played his first game for Southampton on 12 August 2018. It was a Premier League match against Burnley.
He scored his first goal for Southampton on 31 August 2019. This goal helped his team get a 1–1 draw against Manchester United.
Joining Leicester City
On 12 August 2021, Leicester City made an offer to Southampton for Vestergaard. He officially joined Leicester City on 13 August 2021. He signed a three-year contract.
He played his first game for Leicester City just one day later. It was a 1–0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
During his first season at Leicester, Jannik played in 19 games. However, he did not play at all during the 2022–23 season. In that season, Leicester City was relegated from the Premier League.
After the team was relegated to the EFL Championship, Vestergaard became a key player again. He was a starting central defender for Leicester in their 2023–24 season. On 6 August 2023, he started in Leicester's first Championship match. On 21 October, he scored his first goal for Leicester City. This happened in a 3–1 win against Swansea City. On 7 June 2024, he extended his contract with the club until 2027.
International Career
Jannik Vestergaard could have played for Germany because his mother is German. However, he chose to play for Denmark.
Youth National Teams
Jannik played for Denmark's youth national teams. He played for the under-18, under-19, under-20, and under-21 teams.
He was first called up to the Denmark senior team in August 2013. He said it was his "dream" to play for his country. He made his debut later that month against Poland. His first goal for Denmark came in a game against Sweden on 17 November 2015.
He also played for the Denmark U21 team in the 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. He scored a goal in their opening match against the host nation.
Senior National Team
Vestergaard was part of Denmark's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. However, he did not play in any games during the tournament.
In June 2021, he was part of the national team for the 2020 UEFA Euro. The Danish team reached the semi-finals in that competition.
