Jarvis Pernell Green (born January 12, 1979) is a former American football player. He played as a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). A defensive end is a player who tries to stop the other team's offense, especially by tackling the quarterback. Jarvis Green was chosen by the New England Patriots in the 2002 NFL Draft.
He played college football for LSU. Green won two Super Bowl championships with the Patriots during his eight years there. After leaving the Patriots, he played briefly for the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans. He retired from football after the 2010 NFL season.

Early Life and High School Football
Jarvis Green grew up in Donaldsonville, Louisiana. He went to Donaldsonville High School. While playing football there, he was named the most valuable defensive player in his class.
College Football Career at LSU
Green played college football at Louisiana State University (LSU). He was a very good defensive player for them. He is ranked fourth in LSU's history for the most "sacks." A sack happens when a defensive player tackles the opposing team's quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.
- In 1998, as a freshman, he set a new record for LSU freshmen with eight sacks.
- As a sophomore in 1999, he had seven sacks and made 51 tackles. A tackle is when a player brings down an opponent with the ball.
- In his senior year in 2001, Green was chosen for the second-team All-SEC team. He led his team with four sacks and made 52 tackles.
Professional Football Career
Playing for the New England Patriots
The New England Patriots picked Jarvis Green in the fourth round of the 2002 NFL draft. This meant he was the 126th player chosen overall in the draft.
- In his first year, 2002, Green played in 15 games and started four. He made 2.5 sacks.
- In 2003, he started seven games and had two sacks. During the AFC Championship game against the Indianapolis Colts, he had his best game with 2.5 sacks and six tackles.
- In 2004, Green played in all 16 regular season games. He also started all three playoff games, including Super Bowl XXXIX. He finished that season with four sacks.
- The Patriots gave Green a new five-year contract in 2005. He continued to play well, making 2.5 sacks.
- In 2006, Green had his best year for sacks, getting 7.5 of them. He also defended two passes, meaning he stopped the ball from being caught.
- In 2007, he started 10 games and had 6.5 sacks. He also made a career-high 39 tackles.
- Green played in 14 games in 2008, even though he had an ankle injury. He still managed to get two sacks.
- In 2009, he played in 13 games and started 12. He missed some games because of knee surgery. He finished the season with 36 tackles and one sack.
Short Time with Other Teams
After leaving the Patriots, Jarvis Green signed a contract with the Denver Broncos in March 2010. However, he was released by the team later that year in September.
He then signed with the Houston Texans in December 2010. He played for them after another player, Mario Williams, was injured.
Life After Football
After retiring from professional football in 2010, Jarvis Green started several businesses related to food.
- In 2008, while still playing, he opened a restaurant called The Capital Restaurant in his hometown. It closed in 2010. He said that losing money was "part of investment, part of taking risks."
- He started a shrimp wholesale company called Oceans97. He named it after his jersey number, 97, when he played for the Patriots.
- He also became an ambassador for Chef 2 You. This is a smartphone app that delivers chef-prepared meals to people's homes.
Green mentioned that he had chances to become a coach or a sports broadcaster. But he chose to go into the shrimping business because he owed a friend a favor.
