In 2003, Jarvis played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. This is a special game for top high school football players. He was also named a Parade magazine high school All-American. This means he was recognized as one of the best high school players in the country.
College Football Career
Jarvis Moss received a scholarship to play football at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He played for the Florida Gators football team from 2003 to 2006. His coaches were Ron Zook and later Urban Meyer.
Key Moments at Florida
Jarvis had a very memorable game in 2006 against the South Carolina Gamecocks. In the fourth quarter, he blocked two important kicks. The first block stopped a point after touchdown (PAT) attempt. This kept South Carolina's lead at 16–10.
His second block was even more dramatic. With only eight seconds left, he blocked a field goal attempt that would have won the game for South Carolina. This amazing play secured a 17–16 victory for the Gators.
After the 2006 season, Pro Football Weekly named him a first-team All-American. This honor recognized him as one of the best college football players in the nation.
Jarvis Moss decided to enter the 2007 NFL Draft after the Gators won the 2007 BCS National Championship Game.
Professional Football Career
Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos were very interested in Jarvis Moss. They traded with another team, the Jacksonville Jaguars, to get an earlier pick in the draft. With that pick, the Broncos chose Jarvis Moss as the 17th player overall in the 2007 NFL Draft.
First Seasons with the Broncos
In his first NFL season (2007), Jarvis played in six games for the Broncos. He made 12 tackles and had 1 sack. Unfortunately, he broke his shin during practice in November 2007. This injury ended his season early.
In 2008, Jarvis played in 12 games. He recorded 12 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Switching Positions
In 2009, the Broncos' new defensive coordinator, Mike Nolan, made a change. He moved Jarvis Moss from defensive end to outside linebacker. Jarvis had always played defensive end in the NFL. At first, he found it hard to adjust to the new position. There were even reports that he thought about retiring. However, he decided to keep playing and made the team's roster.
Later that season, a star player named Elvis Dumervil got injured. Jarvis Moss became the top choice to take over as the starting outside linebacker. On November 17, 2010, the Denver Broncos released Jarvis Moss from their team.
Oakland Raiders
Soon after leaving the Broncos, Jarvis Moss found a new team. On November 23, 2010, the Oakland Raiders signed him. He joined the Raiders as a defensive end.
In 2011, the Raiders signed Jarvis again for another year. He played in 13 games that season, mostly as a reserve player. After the 2011 season, his contract ended, and he became a free agent.
