About Jason Saab

Jason Saab was born in Newtown, New South Wales, Australia. He has both Nigerian and Indigenous Australian family roots. His surname, Saab, comes from his step-father, who is Lebanese.

Jason started playing junior rugby league for the Merrylands Rams. He also played for the Parramatta City Titans. He went to Westfields Sports High School and finished his studies there in 2018. In the same year, he was chosen to play for the Australian Schoolboys rugby league team. This team represented Australia in London, United Kingdom.

Jason Saab's Rugby League Career

2019: First Steps in the NRL

Jason Saab made his first big debut in the NRL in 2019. He played for the St. George Illawarra Dragons in Round 19 of the 2019 NRL season. In his very first game against South Sydney, he started as a winger. He even scored two tries! However, his team lost the game 20–16.

2020: Moving to Manly

In August 2020, news came out that Jason wanted to leave the Dragons early. He found it hard to travel between Wollongong, where the team was, and his home in Western Sydney. The Dragons agreed to let him go if they received money or another player in return.

Later, in September, people started talking about Jason joining the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles. This was possibly as a trade for another player. Jason played only four games for St. George in the 2020 NRL season. His team finished 13th that year. On 26 November 2020, Jason officially left St. George. Soon after, he signed a three-year contract with Manly-Warringah.

2021: A Great Season with Manly

Jason made his debut for Manly-Warringah in Round 1 of the 2021 NRL season. His team lost their first game to the Sydney Roosters. But things quickly improved!

  • In Round 6, he scored two tries in Manly's big 36–0 win over the Gold Coast.
  • In Round 9, Jason scored a hat-trick (three tries!) in Manly's exciting 38–32 victory against the New Zealand Warriors.
  • The very next week, in Round 10, he scored two more tries. Manly won 50–6 against Brisbane.
  • In Round 15, Jason scored two tries again as Manly beat the Gold Coast 56–24.
  • The following week, he scored another hat-trick! Manly had a huge 66–0 win over Canterbury.
  • In Round 20, Jason scored two tries in Manly's 40–22 win over their rivals Cronulla.

At the end of 2021, Jason Saab was recognized for his amazing season. He and Josh Schuster won the Ken Arthurson Rising Star Award for Manly.

2022: Facing Challenges

In Round 18 of the 2022 NRL season, Jason scored two tries. Manly won 42–12 against Newcastle. Jason played 16 games for Manly in 2022 and scored seven tries. Manly finished 11th on the table that season.

During this year, Jason was one of several players who chose not to play in a game due to a disagreement over the team's jersey.

2023: Strong Return and More Tries

In Round 6 of the 2023 NRL season, Jason returned to play for Manly. He scored a try in their game against Penrith. In Round 25, Jason scored a hat-trick in Manly's game against the New Zealand Warriors. In Round 27, he scored two tries in Manly's big 54–12 win over the Wests Tigers. Jason played 19 matches for Manly in 2023. He scored 14 tries, but the team finished 12th and missed the finals.

2024: Las Vegas and Injury

Jason played for Manly in the first game of the 2024 NRL season. This special game was held in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Allegiant Stadium. He scored a long-range try before halftime. However, near the end of the game, he got a hamstring injury. This injury meant he missed the next five weeks of play. During the game, the TV broadcast showed that Jason Saab is one of the fastest players in the NRL. His fastest recorded time for the 100-meter sprint is 10.67 seconds.

On 4 June 2024, Jason signed a new contract with Manly. He will stay with the team until the end of the 2029 season. In Round 18 of the 2024 NRL season, Jason scored another hat-trick! Manly won that game against North Queensland in extra time. Jason played 17 matches for Manly in 2024 and scored 12 tries. The team finished 7th and made it to the finals.
