Jason Peter Todd is a well-known character from the DC Comics Universe. He first appeared in 1983 and is famous for being one of the characters to take on the role of Robin, Batman's trusted sidekick. Later, he became known by a different name: Red Hood.
Jason Todd was originally created to replace the first Robin, Dick Grayson, who became Nightwing. At first, Jason was very similar to Dick in his background and personality. However, his story was later changed, and he became a troubled street kid whom Batman helped rescue from a difficult life.

Jason Todd's Early Life as Robin
When Jason Todd first appeared in Batman #357 in 1983, he was made to look and act a lot like a younger Dick Grayson. This was because DC Comics was careful about changing Robin.
In his first story, Jason was also the son of circus performers. Sadly, his parents were killed by a criminal named Killer Croc. Bruce Wayne, who is secretly Batman, adopted Jason. Back then, Jason had red hair and was always cheerful. He even wore his circus costume to fight crime until Dick Grayson gave him his own Robin suit. After that, he dyed his hair black.
A New Beginning: After Crisis on Infinite Earths
After a big comic book event called Crisis on Infinite Earths, many parts of the DC Comics stories were reset. Dick Grayson's origin as Robin and his journey to becoming Nightwing stayed mostly the same. However, Jason Todd's character was completely changed.
In this new version, Jason was a twelve-year-old orphan with black hair who lived on the streets. He first met Batman when he was trying to steal tires from the Batmobile. Batman saw that Jason was a troubled kid and helped him get into a special school.
Weeks later, after Dick Grayson became Nightwing, Jason proved he could be a good crimefighter by helping Batman catch a group of thieves. Because of this, Batman offered Jason the important job of being the new Robin.
Jason's Personality as Robin
Unlike Dick Grayson, Jason Todd didn't always get along well with Batman's training. He was often impulsive, meaning he acted without thinking. He was also reckless, hard-headed, and sometimes full of anger. These traits could make him very strong and brave at times. But more often, they led him to take big risks and make dangerous choices.
The Death of Robin
Many readers found it hard to connect with Jason Todd's character. Because of this, he was later tragically killed by The Joker, Batman's greatest enemy.
Jason Todd's death was a very sad and difficult moment for Batman. He kept Jason's Robin costume in the Batcave under glass. It served as a constant reminder of one of his biggest failures: not being able to save his young partner.
Return as Red Hood
A short time later, something surprising happened: Jason Todd seemed to come back to life! He took on a new identity, calling himself the Red Hood. As Red Hood, he caused a lot of trouble for both Batman and another villain named Black Mask.
Batman has been trying to figure out how Jason returned, but he hasn't found a clear answer yet. It was later discovered that Jason's original coffin was empty all along. This made some wonder if Jason never truly died in the first place. His return as Red Hood marked a big change for the character, making him a more complex figure in the DC Universe.
