Jason Gomillion Wright (born July 12, 1982) is an American business consultant. He played American football as a running back in the National Football League (NFL). He played for teams like the Atlanta Falcons, Cleveland Browns, and Arizona Cardinals.

After his football career, Jason Wright earned a business degree. He then worked as a consultant, helping companies improve. From August 2020 to July 2024, he was the president of the Washington Commanders NFL team. He was the first black president of an NFL team.

Jason Wright's Early Life and College Years

Jason Wright was born on July 12, 1982, in Upland, California. He grew up in Pomona, California. He went to Diamond Bar High School, where he played both football and track. He earned a football scholarship to Northwestern University.

He started at Northwestern in 2000. He first played as a wide receiver before becoming a running back. In 2001, a teammate, Rashidi Wheeler, passed away during practice. This event was very important to Jason and strengthened his faith.

College Football Achievements

In 2003, Jason Wright was named co-MVP of the 2003 Motor City Bowl. He ran for 237 yards in that game. He was also chosen for the 2003 All-Big Ten Conference football team.

He finished his college career with 32 touchdowns. He ran for 2,625 yards, which made him Northwestern's fourth all-time leading rusher. He also gained 4,030 all-purpose yards.

Jason Wright earned a degree in psychology. He was also president of the school's Fellowship of Christian Athletes group. He received the first-ever Bobby Bowden Award in 2003 for his leadership and faith.

Jason Wright's NFL Playing Career

After college, Jason Wright tried out for the NFL. He was not chosen in the 2004 NFL draft. However, he signed with the San Francisco 49ers. He later joined the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad.

He played in two games for the Falcons in December 2004. In 2005, he signed with the Cleveland Browns. He scored his first NFL touchdown against the Tennessee Titans that year.

Jason Wright played for the Browns for three seasons. He was a backup running back. In 2009, he signed with the Arizona Cardinals. He was a team captain there. He also represented the Cardinals players during the 2011 NFL lockout. He retired from playing football in July 2011.

He finished his NFL career with 633 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns. He also had 581 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns.

Jason Wright's Business Career

After retiring from football, Jason Wright went back to school. He earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in 2013. He studied at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

Later in 2013, he became a consultant for McKinsey & Company. He helped companies with their organizational culture and workplace diversity.

In August 2020, Jason Wright was hired by the Washington Football Team. He became their team president, in charge of business, money, and marketing. This made him the first black president of an NFL team. He was also the youngest active NFL team president at the time.

He helped the team change its name to the Washington Commanders in 2022. He stepped down as the Commanders' president in July 2024. He continued to work as a senior adviser for the team until the end of the season.

Jason Wright's Family Life

Jason Wright's family has a history of working for civil rights. His great-great uncle, Charles Gomillion, was a professor. He was involved in an important 1960 court case about voting rights. Jason's middle name, Gomillion, honors him.

His grandfather, Harvey Wright, was also an educator and activist. He started several NAACP groups in Texas. Jason's sister, Allison, is a public defender.

Jason Wright married Tiffany Braxton in 2007. They met when they were students at Northwestern University. He is good friends with Michael Blake, a politician who also went to Northwestern.

Jason Wright received the "Best Hire of 2020" award from the Sports Business Journal. He was also named to Black Enterprise's "Top 40 under 40" list in 2021.
