Early Life and High School Basketball
Jawun Evans started his high school basketball journey at Southside High School in Greenville, South Carolina. As a freshman, he helped his team win the 2012 Upper State championship game by scoring 26 points. Southside High School finished that season with 18 wins and 10 losses, ending as the runner-up in the South Carolina Class 3A state championship.
For his second year (2012–13), Jawun moved to Legacy Early College, also in Greenville. He played under his former coach, B.J. Jackson, and competed against some of the best young players in the country. Later, he moved to Texas.
After moving to Dallas, Texas, Evans became a star player at Justin F. Kimball High School during his junior and senior years. In 2015, he was chosen for the prestigious Parade All-America team and the McDonald's All-American Game. These honors mean he was one of the top high school basketball players in the nation. He decided to play college basketball for Oklahoma State.
Before starting college, in the summer of 2015, Evans played for the United States team in the FIBA Under-19 World Championship in Greece. His team, USA, won the championship by beating Croatia in an exciting overtime game.
College Basketball Career
As a freshman at Oklahoma State, Evans showed his skills by averaging 12.9 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game. He set a new record for freshmen at Oklahoma State by scoring an amazing 42 points against their rival team, Oklahoma. Even though he missed over a month of the season due to a shoulder injury in February 2016, he was still named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year.
In his second year, Evans was recognized as a top player before the season even began. At the end of the regular season, he was named first-team all-conference and a third-team All-American by Sporting News magazine.
Professional Basketball Journey
Starting in the NBA (2017–2018)
On June 22, 2017, Jawun Evans was picked by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2017 NBA draft. He was the 39th player chosen overall. Soon after, on July 6, 2017, he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers. He played for the Clippers for a while before they decided to let him go on October 15, 2018.
Playing for the Suns and Thunder (2018–2019)
After leaving the Clippers, Evans joined the Northern Arizona Suns in the NBA G League on November 4, 2018. The NBA G League is like a development league for the NBA. On December 7, he signed a special "two-way contract" with the Phoenix Suns, which meant he could play for both the Suns and their G League team. However, he was later waived by the Suns on March 23, 2019.
Just two days later, on March 25, 2019, the Oklahoma City Thunder picked him up.
Time with Raptors 905 (2019–2020, 2021–2022)
In 2019, Evans became part of the Raptors 905 team, another NBA G League team. He played well, averaging 8 points, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds per game. However, he got an injury that ended his season, and he was waived on March 6, 2020.
He later rejoined the Raptors 905 in October 2021 for another season.
Playing Overseas and Other G League Teams (2021–Present)
Jawun Evans has also played basketball in other countries. On January 16, 2021, he signed with Promitheas Patras in the Greek Basket League.
In 2022, he was traded to the Cleveland Charge in the NBA G League. Later that year, on September 6, 2022, he signed a one-year deal with Juventus Utena in the Lithuanian Basketball League.
In 2023, he signed with Śląsk Wrocław in the PLK. In March 2024, he had a short deal with JDA Dijon Basket. On August 10, 2024, Evans signed a contract with Legia Warsaw, also in the Polish Basketball League.
Most recently, on January 24, 2025, Evans joined the Maine Celtics, bringing his career back to the NBA G League.
