Jawun Evans started his high school basketball journey in Greenville, South Carolina. As a freshman, he scored 26 points to help his team, Southside High School, win a big championship game in 2012. Southside finished that season as the runner-up in the South Carolina Class 3A state championship.

For his sophomore year (2012–13), Evans moved to Legacy Early College, also in Greenville. He played very well against some of the best young basketball players. Later, he moved to Dallas, Texas.

Playing in Texas

In Texas, Evans became a star player at Justin F. Kimball High School during his junior and senior years. He was chosen for the prestigious Parade All-America team and the McDonald's All-American Game in 2015. These honors mean he was one of the best high school players in the country.

After high school, Evans decided to play college basketball for Oklahoma State. He chose them over other well-known schools like Illinois, USC, and Texas.

International Play

Before starting his freshman year at Oklahoma State, Evans played for the United States team. He competed in the 2015 FIBA Under-19 World Championship in Greece. His team, USA, won the championship by beating Croatia in an exciting overtime game.

College Basketball Career

At Oklahoma State, Jawun Evans quickly showed his talent.

Freshman Year Success

As a freshman, he averaged 12.9 points, 4.9 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game. He set a new record for Oklahoma State freshmen by scoring 42 points in a game against their rival, Oklahoma. Even though he missed more than a month of the season due to a shoulder injury, he was named the Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year.

Sophomore Year Achievements

When he returned for his sophomore season, Evans was recognized as one of the top players in the Big 12 Conference before the season even began. By the end of the regular season, he was named to the first-team all-conference. He was also chosen as a third-team All-American by Sporting News magazine.

Jawun Evans began his professional career in 2017.

NBA G League and Other Teams

In March 2019, Evans briefly played for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Later that year, he joined the Raptors 905, another NBA G League team. He played well, averaging 8 points, 4 assists, and 5 rebounds per game, but a serious injury ended his season in March 2020.
