Jean François Victor Aicard (born February 4, 1848 – died May 13, 1921) was a famous French poet, playwright, and novelist. He wrote many different kinds of stories and poems during his life.

About Jean Aicard
Jean Aicard was born in Toulon, a city in France. His father, also named Jean Aicard, was a well-known journalist. Jean Aicard followed in his father's footsteps, starting his own writing career in 1867. His first work was called Les Jeunes Croyances.
In 1870, his first play was performed in Marseille. He became known for his beautiful poems about the French region of Provence. Some of these poems, like Poèmes de Provence and La Chanson de l'enfant, even won awards from the French Academy.
His Famous Works
Jean Aicard wrote many different types of books. He was especially good at writing poetry. Some of his famous poetry collections include:

Jean Aicard was a very respected writer. In 1909, he was chosen to be a member of the Académie française. This is a very important group in France that protects the French language.
In 1919, he became the mayor of Solliès-Ville, a town in France. As mayor, he worked to protect old buildings. He made sure the ruins of the Forbin castle were listed as a historic monument. He even had one of his plays performed there by a famous theater group!
Jean Aicard passed away in Paris on May 13, 1921. He left behind a rich collection of poems, plays, and novels.
