Jeevan Mendis, born on January 15, 1983, is a former professional cricketer from Sri Lanka. He was an all-rounder, meaning he was good at both batting and bowling. Jeevan bowled a type of spin called leg spin.
He played for the Sri Lankan national team in shorter cricket games. These are called limited-overs internationals. He also played for teams like Tamil Union in Sri Lanka. In 2017, he played for Derbyshire in England. Jeevan Mendis stopped playing international cricket on December 28, 2021, and moved to Australia.

Early Cricket Days
Jeevan Mendis was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He went to S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia. He started playing cricket in 2000. He was a left-handed batsman.
In 2005, he played for the Sri Lankan A team. He once held a record for the best bowling figures in the U19 Cricket World Cup. He took 7 wickets for only 20 runs against Zimbabwe U19's. This was a special achievement for a Sri Lankan player.
Playing for Teams in Sri Lanka
Jeevan Mendis played for many different cricket clubs in Sri Lanka. He made his first Twenty20 game appearance in 2004 for Sinhalese Sports Club. Since 2008, he has played for Tamil Union.
In 2018, he was part of the Kandy team for a special tournament. He also played for Colombo's team later that year. In December 2018, he had an amazing bowling performance. He took 9 wickets for only 53 runs in a first-class match. This was the best bowling performance in first-class cricket that year. He was the top wicket-taker for Tamil Union in that tournament.
Playing for Sri Lanka
Jeevan Mendis started playing for the Sri Lankan national team in 2010. His first international game was against Zimbabwe on June 1, 2010. In that game, he took two wickets. In another game against India, he scored 35 runs without being out. Sri Lanka won that match.
In 2012, he played in the 2012 ICC World Twenty20. Against Zimbabwe, he scored 43 runs quickly. He also took 3 wickets for 24 runs. He helped his team win that important match. Later in 2012, he scored his highest runs in a One Day International (ODI) game. He made 72 runs against India.
In November 2012, he had his best bowling figures in an ODI. He took 3 wickets for only 15 runs against New Zealand. Sri Lanka won, and he was named the best player of the match. After a break, he returned to the national team in 2018. He played against Bangladesh and took two wickets.
In 2019, he was chosen for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. After the World Cup, he was not selected for the national team anymore.
Playing in T20 Leagues
Jeevan Mendis also played in exciting Twenty20 (T20) cricket leagues around the world. In 2018, he joined the Tshwane Spartans team in the Mzansi Super League in South Africa. He was one of the best wicket-takers for his team in that tournament.
In 2019, he played for the Sylhet Thunder team in the 2019–20 Bangladesh Premier League in Bangladesh.
