Jeffree Star (born Jeffrey Lynn Steininger Jr. on November 15, 1985) is an American internet personality, makeup artist, and singer. He is famous for creating and owning the popular makeup company, Jeffree Star Cosmetics.
In 2009, Star released his first music album, Beauty Killer. It featured songs like "Lollipop Luxury", which had a remix with the famous rapper Nicki Minaj. He went on world tours to perform his music for fans. In 2010, he joined a record label called Konlive. However, he left the music world in 2013.
Star made a big comeback to music in 2024. He announced a new version of his Beauty Killer album with three new songs.
Besides music, Star started his makeup company in 2014. He became very successful on YouTube, where he promoted his products. In 2018, Forbes magazine reported that he earned $18 million from his YouTube channel alone, making him one of the highest-paid YouTubers that year.
Early Life
Jeffree Star was born in Los Angeles County, California, on November 15, 1985. He grew up in Orange County, California. As a child, he loved to play with his mother's makeup. He even convinced her to let him wear makeup to his junior high school.
Star graduated from Pacifica High School in 2002. After graduating, he legally changed his name from Jeffrey Lynn Steininger Jr. to Jeffree Star. He moved to Los Angeles and worked in makeup, modeling, and music to support himself. He became known for his makeup skills and was often hired by celebrities for their events.
Career
MySpace Fame
Before YouTube was popular, Star used a social media website called MySpace to build his career. He used it like a blog to share his life and thoughts on self-confidence and beauty. He already had many fans from other websites, so his MySpace profile quickly became very popular.
His creative photoshoots would get thousands of comments. He became one of the most popular musicians on MySpace who wasn't signed to a major record label.
Music Career
Star's music career began after he became friends with Samantha Maloney, the drummer for the musician Peaches. She encouraged him to create his own music. In 2007, he performed in the True Colors Tour 2007, which traveled to 15 cities across the United States and Canada.
His first and only studio album, Beauty Killer, came out in 2009. It was a success, reaching number seven on the U.S. Billboard Top Electronic Albums chart. He worked with other artists, including a feature on a remix of his song "Lollipop Luxury" with Nicki Minaj.
Star signed with a record label in 2010 to make a second album, but it was never finished. He left the music industry in 2013. However, in September 2024, he announced a special 15th-anniversary release of Beauty Killer. This new version included a new album cover, three new songs, and a new eyeshadow palette with the same name.
Jeffree Star Cosmetics
In 2014, Star used his life savings to start his own makeup company, Jeffree Star Cosmetics. He began making YouTube videos to show off his products. His channel grew quickly, gaining millions of subscribers and billions of views.
His first products were velour liquid lipsticks. They were a huge hit. Since then, his company has released many other popular items. These include highlighter palettes, eyeshadow palettes, and accessories like mirrors and makeup bags. His brand is now sold in stores around the world.
Public Disagreements
Throughout his career, Star has had public disagreements with other internet personalities and makeup brand owners. These arguments have often been discussed online by fans and commentators. He has had well-known feuds with tattoo artist Kat Von D and other beauty YouTubers like Tati Westbrook and James Charles. He has also publicly criticized products from brands like Kylie Cosmetics and Too Faced Cosmetics.
Personal Life
Star was in a relationship with Nathan Schwandt from 2015 until early 2020. In December 2020, Star moved from California to Casper, Wyoming, where he currently lives.
