Jekar Khourchid is a talented writer from Syria. He writes amazing stories especially for children. He studied Arabic literature at Al-Baath University in Homs. His very first collection of stories, called "The Jackal and The Lion", won a big prize in 2006. It was the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity in children's literature.

Jekar Khourchid paused his writing for a short time due to a family illness. He then started writing again in 2012. He has written over 120 books, with nearly 100 of them already printed. In 2015, Khourchid moved from Syria to the Netherlands.

About Jekar Khourchid

Jekar Khourchid grew up in Aleppo, a city in Syria. He studied Arabic literature at Al-Baath University in Homs. His writing journey began with different types of poetry and articles. He also wrote stories for newspapers and magazines in Arabic and Syria.

His first collection of children's stories, "The Jackal and The Lion", won the 2006 Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity. This award is very important in children's literature. Jekar Khourchid took a break from writing for a while because of a difficult time with his family. He returned to writing in 2012. He has now published more than 120 books.

In 2015, Khourchid left Syria and traveled to Turkey. Later, he decided to move to the Netherlands. He wrote a story called "The Immigrant Cat" based on his own journey. This book can be found in the Bavarian State Library. Khourchid also wrote about the challenges children faced in the camps he saw in Turkey and Greece. Thousands of these stories were given to children in those camps.

Award-Winning Stories

Jekar Khourchid has written many special books. One of his stories is "Nizar is the Referee". This children's story features a main character with a disability. It has even been translated into Georgian.

His book "Beit Bayut" has beautiful pictures by Faris Karah's. It was chosen as a top book for its amazing illustrations in 2019. This was for the Etisalat Award for Arabic Children's Literature. Another story, "I Am Not You", was a finalist for the Sheikh Zayed Book Award in 2019. This award is also for Children's literature. In 2020, his book "Al-himar w al-bulbul" (The Donkey and the Nightingale) was recognized. It was illustrated by Ghazaleh Bigdelou and recommended for the International Youth Library’s White Ravens list.
