Jeremiah O'Sullivan (born February 6, 1842 – died August 10, 1896) was an important leader in the Roman Catholic Church. He was born in Ireland and later became the Bishop of Mobile, Alabama. He served in this role from 1885 until he passed away in 1896.

Early Life and Priesthood
Jeremiah O'Sullivan was born in Kanturk, County Cork, Ireland. His parents were John and Mary O'Sullivan. In 1863, when he was about 21 years old, he moved to the United States.
Becoming a Priest
After arriving in the U.S., Jeremiah O'Sullivan began his studies to become a priest. He first attended St. Charles College in Ellicott City, Maryland. Then, he continued his religious education at St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore.
On June 30, 1868, he was ordained as a priest. Archbishop Martin John Spalding performed the ordination ceremony.
Early Church Work
Father O'Sullivan's first job was as a curate at St. Peter's Church in Rockville, Maryland. A curate is like an assistant to the main priest.
Later, he became a pastor in Westernport, Maryland. He worked there for nine years. During this time, he helped build a new church and a convent. A convent is a home for nuns. He also helped set up a school managed by the Sisters of St. Joseph. After Westernport, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he served as pastor of St. Peter's Church.
Bishop of Mobile
On June 16, 1885, a very important event happened for Father O'Sullivan. Pope Leo XIII chose him to be the fourth Bishop of Mobile, Alabama.
Becoming a Bishop
He officially became a bishop on September 20, 1885. This special ceremony is called consecration. Archbishop James Gibbons led the ceremony. Bishops John Joseph Keane and Henry P. Northrop also helped. The event took place at St. Peter's Church.
Bishop O'Sullivan was officially welcomed in Mobile, Alabama on November 1 of that year.
His Work in Mobile
Bishop O'Sullivan was known as a very good leader. He helped improve the financial situation of the diocese, which is a church district. He also started several new churches, chapels, and schools. Chapels are smaller places of worship.
He also oversaw important changes to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. This included adding two new towers to the building.
Bishop O'Sullivan passed away at the age of 54 on August 10, 1896. He is buried in the crypt of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. A crypt is an underground room, often used for burials.
