Jhonny Acosta Zamora, born on July 21, 1983, is a professional football player from Costa Rica. He plays as a defender, usually in the center of the defense, for the team Santa Ana.

Jhonny Acosta's Club Journey
Jhonny Acosta started his professional football career with Santos de Guápiles in the 2004-2005 season. He played for them until 2010. After that, he joined Alajuelense, where he helped the team win three league titles.
In January 2013, Jhonny went to Mexico for a six-month loan. He played for Dorados, a team in the Mexican second division.
Playing for Herediano and Rionegro
On September 8, 2016, Acosta joined Herediano. He played there for a while before moving to the Colombian club Rionegro Águilas on January 10, 2018.
Time with East Bengal
On July 11, 2018, Acosta moved to India to play for East Bengal Club. He wore the number 2 jersey for the team. He made his first appearance for the club on September 2. In that game, he scored a goal in a 2-2 draw against Mohun Bagan. This match was a big local rivalry called the Kolkata derby. He left the club on April 16, 2019.
Later, on June 26, 2019, Acosta signed with a Costa Rican club called UCR. However, he returned to East Bengal on March 6, 2020, to play for them again until the end of that season.
Jhonny Acosta's International Career
Jhonny Acosta joined the Costa Rica national team a bit later in his career. He made his first appearance for Costa Rica in March 2011, when he was 27 years old. This was in a friendly match against Argentina.
He has played for his country in many important games. This includes seven FIFA World Cup qualification matches. He also played in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2011 Copa América.
World Cup Appearances
On September 6, 2013, Jhonny scored his first goal for Costa Rica. This happened in a 3-1 win against the United States during a World Cup qualifying game in San José.
In June 2014, Acosta was chosen to be part of Costa Rica's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He played his first World Cup game in the Round of 16 match against Greece. He came into the game as a substitute after his teammate Óscar Duarte received a red card.

Jhonny also started in the quarter-final match against the Netherlands. He helped his team keep a clean sheet, meaning the other team didn't score any goals during the game. The match ended in a 3-4 penalty shoot-out loss for Costa Rica.
In May 2018, Acosta was again selected for Costa Rica's 23-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia. He played in all of the team's group stage matches. These games were against Brazil, Serbia, and Switzerland.
