Jhonny Acosta Zamora (born 21 July 1983) is a Costa Rican professional footballer. He plays as a defender for Santa Ana. He is known for his strong defense and leadership on the field.

Jhonny Acosta's Club Career
Jhonny Acosta started his professional football journey with Santos de Guápiles in the 2004-2005 season. He played for them until 2010.
Playing for Alajuelense
In 2010, Acosta joined Alajuelense, one of Costa Rica's biggest clubs. He had a very successful time there. He helped the team win three league titles.
In 2013, he had a short loan period playing for Dorados in Mexico. After his time with Alajuelense, he moved to Herediano in 2016. He played there for two years.
Adventures with East Bengal
In July 2018, Acosta decided to try playing football in India. He joined East Bengal Club. He wore the number 2 jersey for the team.
He made a great start, scoring a goal in his very first game. This was a big match against Mohun Bagan, known as the Kolkata derby. The game ended in a 2–2 draw. He left the club in April 2019.
Acosta then returned to Costa Rica to play for UCR. But in March 2020, he went back to East Bengal for a short time. Later in 2020, he joined Deportivo Saprissa. He also played for Pérez Zeledón in 2021.
Jhonny Acosta's International Career
Jhonny Acosta started playing for the Costa Rica national team a bit later than some players. He was 27 years old when he made his first appearance in March 2011. This was in a friendly match against Argentina.
He played in seven FIFA World Cup qualification matches for his country. He also took part in important tournaments like the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2011 Copa América.
First International Goal
On 6 September 2013, Acosta scored his first goal for Costa Rica. It was during a World Cup qualifying game against the United States. Costa Rica won that match 3–1.
World Cup Appearances
Acosta was part of Costa Rica's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He played in the Round of 16 match against Greece. He came on as a substitute after a teammate was sent off.
He also started in the quarter-final game against the Netherlands. He helped the team keep a clean sheet, meaning the opponents didn't score any goals during regular play. The game went to a penalty shoot-out, which Costa Rica sadly lost 3–4.

In May 2018, Acosta was again chosen for Costa Rica's team. He went to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He played in all of Costa Rica's group stage matches. These were against strong teams like Brazil, Serbia, and Switzerland.
