High School Basketball Days
Jim Thomas played basketball at Nova High School in Davie, Florida. He was a competitive player there.
College Career Highlights
Thomas played college basketball for Indiana University from 1979 to 1983. He was a key player for head coach Bobby Knight. In 1981, he helped his team win the national championship.
During the 1981 championship game, Jim was the "sixth man," meaning he often came off the bench. He played a big role in the 63–50 win against North Carolina. He grabbed nine rebounds, helping his team secure the title. Because of his great performance, he was named to the 1981 Final Four All-Tournament Team.
Professional Basketball Journey
Jim Thomas played professionally in the NBA (National Basketball Association). He played for the Indiana Pacers, L.A. Clippers, and Minnesota Timberwolves between 1983 and 1990.
He also played for several teams in the CBA. In 1993, his team, the Omaha Racers, won the CBA Championship. This was a big achievement in his professional career.
Playing for Team USA
Jim Thomas also represented the U.S. national team. He played in the 1982 FIBA World Championship. His team performed very well and won the silver medal in this international competition.
