Jiminy Peak is a super fun ski resort located in western Massachusetts, in the United States. It's nestled in the Taconic Mountains in a town called Hancock. The very top of the mountain, where you'll find the Hendricks Summit Lodge, is actually in a nearby town called Lanesborough.
Jiminy Peak is owned by a company called Och-Ziff Capital Management, but it's run by Brian Fairbank, who used to own the resort for a long time! In winter, Jiminy Peak is a fantastic place for families. You can go skiing and snowboarding, enjoy outdoor pools, and grab a bite at various restaurants. The mountain has 45 different trails and nine lifts, including a super-fast six-person chairlift that makes getting up the mountain quick and easy.
When the snow melts, Jiminy Peak transforms into the Mountain Adventure Park! You can try exciting activities like an alpine super slide, a mountain coaster, hiking, and mountain biking. There's also an Aerial Adventure Park, which is a challenging course high up in the trees. It has five different levels, offering physical and mental challenges for everyone, from 15 to 50 feet in the air! Jiminy Peak was one of the first places in the country to have a mountain coaster (the first on the East Coast!) and it was home to the nation's very first Alpine Super Slide, which opened way back in June 1977.
Jiminy Peak is also a leader in being eco-friendly! In 2007, it became the first private business in the U.S. to get its own giant wind turbine. This turbine creates about 35% of all the energy the resort uses each year. The wind blows strongest in winter, which is perfect because that's when the resort needs the most energy for its lifts and snowmaking machines. This is a huge part of Jiminy Peak's efforts to be sustainable and protect the environment. In 2012, they also added a special unit in their Country Inn that makes both heat and hot water for the hotel, saving even more energy!
Over the past ten years, Jiminy Peak has grown a lot, adding more places to stay and things to do. The mountain now has a large meeting space, about 15,000 square feet (1,400 m2), which can be used for meetings, conferences, parties, and even weddings.
