Joseph Cheng (born on June 19, 1982) is a famous model, actor, and singer from Taiwan. He is also known by his Chinese name, Zhèng Yuánchàng. Joseph first started his career as a model. However, he became very well-known for playing the character Jiang Zhishu in the TV show It Started with a Kiss. This show was based on a popular Japanese comic book called Itazura Na Kiss.

Joseph Cheng has become a popular actor across many parts of Asia. People in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, and Japan know him well. In October 2009, he released his first music album, called Sing a Song. The name of the album and its main song are a clever play on words from his Chinese name.

Early Life

Joseph Cheng, who was sometimes called Bryan Cheng before 2005, grew up in Beitun District, Taichung, Taiwan. His parents divorced when he was in primary school. After that, he lived with his father. He also has an older sister who lives with their mother.

Acting and Modeling Career

Joseph Cheng began his journey in the entertainment world with a company called Catwalk Modelling Agency. He quickly became a successful model within just one year. Joseph mainly works in Taiwan, but he is also very popular in China, Hong Kong, and Japan.

As a model, Joseph appeared in several music videos. One of these was for the famous singer Jacky Cheung. In 2003, Joseph got his first acting role in a Taiwanese TV show called The Rose. This show also featured the girl band S.H.E. This role helped him start his acting career.

After becoming more popular, Joseph made a guest appearance in a TV show called Dance with Michael in the same year. In 2004, he starred as the main character in two dramas, Nine-ball and Magic Ring.

His big break came in 2005 when he starred in It Started with a Kiss. This show was a huge hit in Taiwan and across Asia. It made Joseph incredibly famous. This was also his first time working with actress Ariel Lin. They became a very popular on-screen couple. They worked together again in the sequel, They Kiss Again (2007), and in another show called Love or Bread (2008). Joseph has acted in many TV shows from Taiwan, China, and Japan. However, he is still best known for his roles in The Rose and the Kiss series.

As a model, Joseph has worked with many big brands. These include Puma AG and adidas. He has also walked in fashion shows for designers like Marc Jacobs and Christian Dior. He often attends store openings for brands like Hugo Boss. Joseph also promotes various food, jewelry, and clothing brands. He has been a spokesperson for Shiatzy Chen.

Besides his acting and modeling, Joseph has released three photo books and several calendars. He has also written two books and helped write another about his hometown, Taichung. He has won many awards for his modeling and acting. One important award was the Asia Special Award at the Asia Model Festival Awards in 2009. In December 2009, Joseph became an ambassador for World Vision, helping others.

Music Career

In 2009, Joseph Cheng was busy with his first stage play, Design for Living. He acted alongside experienced actors Sylvia Chang and David Wang. The play had many sold-out shows in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, and Singapore. Joseph said that acting in a stage play had always been a dream of his.

In the same year, he also released his first music album, Sing a Song. Joseph is known among his friends in the entertainment industry for loving to sing. His album sold well and topped some music charts in Taiwan. However, some music critics were not fully convinced by his singing. Many fans were disappointed because Joseph did not star in any TV shows in 2009.

Besides his entertainment career, Joseph is also studying tourism management part-time at Hsing Wu College. In Taiwan, all men must complete National Service. Joseph plans to join the service once he finishes his education. In 2010, Joseph represented Taiwan at the Asia Song Festival. This event was held at the Seoul Olympic Stadium.

Personal Life

Joseph Cheng has completed his military service. He served in the second regiment of the Taiwan Coast Guard.
