Joseph Lloyd Dombrowski, born on May 12, 1991, is an American who used to be a professional road racing cyclist. He raced bikes for a living from 2011 to 2023. During his career, he rode for several big teams like BMC, Team Sky, EF Education First, UAE Team Emirates, and Astana Qazaqstan Team.

Joe Dombrowski was born in Christiana, Delaware, USA, on May 12, 1991. He grew up in Marshall, Virginia. Today, he lives in both Marshall, Virginia, and Nice, France. From 2009 to 2010, Joe studied at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.
Joe's Cycling Journey
Starting Out
Joe Dombrowski started mountain biking in 2006. He then tried cyclo-cross in 2007. By 2009, he began road racing with a local team called Haymarket Bicycles.
He joined a professional team, Trek–Livestrong, for the 2011 and 2012 seasons. In 2012, Joe had some great results. He won the Girobio, which is a big race for young riders. He also finished fourth in the Tour of Utah.
Riding for Team Sky
In 2013, Joe signed with Team Sky, a very famous cycling team. He stayed with them for two years. In 2013, he helped his teammate, Chris Froome, win several multi-day races. In 2014, Joe had a successful surgery on his iliac artery.
Racing with Cannondale–Garmin
Joe joined Cannondale–Garmin in 2015. This team was also a top professional team. Before racing in the 2015 Vuelta a España, he won the Tour of Utah. This was a big win for him!
He continued with the same team, which later became EF Education First, until 2019. In 2019, he won another stage in the Tour of Utah. He also had his best performance in a Grand Tour, finishing 12th overall in the Giro d'Italia.
Time with UAE Team Emirates
In 2019, Joe signed a two-year deal with UAE Team Emirates. The 2020 season was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Joe finished 43rd in the Giro d'Italia that year.
In the 2021 Giro d'Italia, Joe was part of a group of 25 riders who broke away from the main pack. He rode ahead on the last climb and won the stage by 13 seconds! This was his first win in Europe since 2012. He also moved up to second place overall and became the leader of the mountains classification.
The next day, Joe had a crash during the race. He hit a race marshal near the end of the stage. He managed to finish but had to leave the race the next morning because of a concussion. Later that year, in the Vuelta a España, Joe was again in an early breakaway. He attacked the group, but another rider, Rein Taaramäe, won the stage, with Joe finishing second.
Joining Astana Qazaqstan Team
In October 2021, Joe signed a two-year contract with Astana–Premier Tech. This team was later renamed Astana Qazaqstan Team. He raced with them from the 2022 season until he retired.
