Joe and Jake are a music duo from the UK. They are made up of Joe Woolford and Jake Shakeshaft. They became famous for representing the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with their song "You're Not Alone". Joe and Jake first met in 2015. They were both on the TV talent show The Voice UK. After the show, they decided to form a duo.

Their Music Journey
Starting on The Voice UK
Joe Woolford and Jake Shakeshaft met during the fourth series of The Voice UK in 2015. This TV show helps new singers get discovered. Both Joe and Jake did well in their first auditions. Jake sang "Thinking Out Loud" by Ed Sheeran. Joe performed "Lights" by Ellie Goulding.
They both moved on to the next rounds. In the "Battle rounds," they each won their musical duels. Jake sang "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall" by Coldplay. Joe performed "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz.
Later, in the "Knockout rounds," Jake sang "As Long as You Love Me" by Justin Bieber. He was eliminated from the show at this stage. Joe sang "Hey Ya!" by OutKast and made it to the live shows. Joe continued in the competition for a few more weeks. He was eliminated after singing "Jealous" by Labrinth.

Eurovision Song Contest
After The Voice UK, Joe and Jake became good friends. They decided to team up and try for the Eurovision Song Contest 2016. They entered Eurovision: You Decide. This was the show where the UK chose its entry for Eurovision.
Joe and Jake were one of six acts competing. They won the contest because the public voted for them. People voted by phone and online. They performed their song "You're Not Alone".
On May 14, 2016, they sang their song in the Eurovision Final. The event took place at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden. Before Eurovision, on March 11, 2016, Joe and Jake signed a record deal. They joined Sony Music UK. In the end, Joe and Jake finished 24th in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.
Meet the Members
Joe Woolford
Joe Woolford grew up in Ruthin, Wales. He loved music from a young age, starting at nine years old. His family was also very musical. Joe is a rapper and a singer/songwriter. He was inspired by the famous rapper 2Pac.
In 2016, Joe talked about how he and Jake formed their duo. He said it was very easy and they just "clicked." They started writing songs together and realized their voices sounded great together. He was very happy it worked out, leading them to sign with Sony and represent the UK in Eurovision.
In May 2018, Joe joined a swing vocal group called Jack Pack.
Jake Shakeshaft
Jake Shakeshaft is from Newcastle-under-Lyme in England. He started playing guitar and singing in 2012. By 2013, he was performing solo shows. In 2014, he was a finalist in a music competition called NUA Entertainment Next Big Thing.
Jake studied Music Technology at Newcastle-under-Lyme College. He used to work part-time, but he stopped to focus on being a full-time musician.
In an interview in 2016, Jake explained the meaning behind their Eurovision song, "You're Not Alone." He said the song is about "togetherness." It's about having support when you need it and being there for others.
