Joey Matthew Browner, born on May 15, 1960, is a former American football player. He played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). Joey played for the Minnesota Vikings from 1983 to 1991. He also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1992. Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the USC Trojans.

Early Life and High School Sports
Joey Browner grew up in Warren, Ohio. He went to Western Reserve High for two years. Later, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia. There, he attended Southwest High for his last two years. Joey was a great athlete. He played as a defensive lineman in football. He also played basketball with Gerald Wilkins, who later joined the NBA. Joey also ran track and field. He even qualified for the Ohio State track meet twice.
In his senior year, Joey was amazing at football. He made 120 tackles and had three interceptions. He earned "Parade All-American" honors. He was also named the "Georgia class 3-A lineman of the year." Many people thought he would go to Notre Dame for college. This was because his three older brothers played there. But Joey chose the University of Southern California instead.
College Football Career
At the USC, Joey Browner was a star player. In 1982, he was named the team's Most Valuable Player. He played alongside other talented players. These included Dennis Smith, Ronnie Lott (who is in the Hall of Fame), and future coach Jeff Fisher. He also played with famous players like Anthony Muñoz and Marcus Allen.
Joey was chosen for the first-team All-Pac-10. He also made the first-team All-Coast. During his college career, he had 243 tackles. He also made nine interceptions and defended 40 passes. He recovered seven fumbles and scored three touchdowns. His USC teams had a great record of 36 wins, 8 losses, and 1 tie. He played in one Rose Bowl Game and one Fiesta Bowl.
Professional Football Career
In 1983, the Minnesota Vikings picked Joey Browner. He was the 19th player chosen in the first round of the NFL draft. He played as a safety.
Joey was an amazing defensive player and tackler. He was chosen for the Pro Bowl six times in a row. This was from 1985 to 1990, while he played for the Vikings. His youngest brother Gerald played at the University of Georgia.
Joey Browner is part of the "1980s All-Star All-Decade Team." He is also on the NFL Gridiron Legends team. This team includes his former Vikings teammate Cris Carter.
