Joey Mead King was born on September 12, 1974. She is a famous Filipino-Iranian television personality, a host for fashion and lifestyle shows, and a coach for models on the runway. She is also a mentor and co-judge on the popular TV show Asia's Next Top Model for its second and third seasons. In 2018, the BBC named her one of their 100 Women, which is a list of inspiring and influential women from around the world.
Early Life and Background
Joey Mead King was born in the Philippines. Her mother, Josephine del Pilar-Mead, is Filipina. Her biological father is from Iran. When Joey was four years old, she and her mother moved to Adelaide, Australia. There, her mother married Leslie Bertram Mead, who became Joey's stepfather. Joey grew up in South Australia until she was a teenager.
Joey's Career Journey
Joey started her career as a model when she was 17 years old. She modeled in Manila, then in Bangkok and Hong Kong. Because she lived in different places like Australia and Asia, Joey learned to speak with different accents, including Australian and American. She is very good at imitating accents, which has helped her in her work as a live host and voice talent. She can switch between Filipino, Australian, South African, American, and British accents.
Currently, Joey lives in the Philippines. She can speak basic Tagalog and understands the language well.
From 1996 to 2000, Joey was a video jockey (VJ) for Channel [V] International in Hong Kong. A VJ introduces music videos and talks about music news on TV. She has been featured on more than 30 magazine covers in the Philippines. She has also appeared in many TV commercials, ad campaigns, and magazine covers in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, and Indonesia. Joey has also worked as a model in New York with Ford Models and is currently with Ford Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Joey Mead King was the first model from the Philippines to be the main star in a Head & Shoulders shampoo commercial and a Lexus car commercial. Both of these commercials were shown in Canada.
In 2005, she went back to Singapore to work on an entertainment show called Ebuzz on the AXN channel. On this show, Joey interviewed many famous Hollywood celebrities.
In 2006, Joey hosted the World Cup series in Singapore for StarHub.
From 2008 to 2009, she worked as a presenter for HBO, a well-known TV channel.
Her excellent hosting skills have led her to host many lifestyle events, corporate events, red carpet interviews, and live shows.
In 2012, it was announced that Joey would become the model mentor and a co-judge for the TV show Asia's Next Top Model for three seasons. In this role, she helped guide and judge aspiring models.
In 2017, Joey was also a co-host for the Miss Universe 2016 pageant. This big event was held at the Mall of Asia Arena on January 30, 2017.
Personal Life
Joey Mead King cares a lot about animals. She is a strong supporter of animal rights and works against animal cruelty. She is an advocate for PAWS Philippines, an organization that helps animals. She moved back to the Philippines in 2007. In November 2011, she married Angelina "Angie" Mead King, who is a business person and loves cars.
