Johann Vera (born December 4, 1995) is a singer, songwriter, and actor from Guayaquil, Ecuador.

He started singing when he was just 10 years old on a TV show called Factor X. Later, he was also a finalist on La Banda, a reality show created by famous artists Ricky Martin and Simon Cowell.

As an independent artist, Johann has released many popular songs like “Donde Nací” and “Vuelo a París”. He has also acted in TV shows such as Disney Channel's Champeta and Nickelodeon's Club 57 and Kally's Mash Up. In 2020, Johann won a special award called a "Gaviota de Plata" (Silver Seagull) at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Chile.

Johann Alexander Vera Tapia was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, on December 4, 1995. His parents are Jayo Vera and Shirley Tapia. He has an older brother named Christian and a younger sister named Stephanie.

When Johann was six years old, his family moved to Bogotá, Colombia. He lived there for 10 years and made many close friends. During this time, he joined a well-known arts school called MISI.

After finishing high school at 15, Johann moved to the United States. He wanted to follow his dream of becoming a performer. He worked as an extra in TV shows and commercials. In 2015, his life changed when he joined the TV show La Banda on Univision.

As of 2022, Johann lives in Miami, Florida. He continues to release new music every year, act in shows, and share videos on his YouTube channel.

Johann's Music Journey

Johann began his singing career at age nine on the TV show Factor X. Being a finalist on the show helped him get a scholarship to the MISI arts academy. After moving to the U.S., he joined the 2015 Univisión show La Banda. On this show, he worked with famous singers like Ricky Martin, Simon Cowell, Alejandro Sanz, and Laura Pausini.

In August 2016, Johann released his first independent song and music video, "Pretty Girl (Tu Canción)". The video was filmed mostly in Los Angeles. Later that year, he released another song called "Tíralo", with its music video filmed in Bogotá, Colombia.

In 2017, he released a more emotional song called "Vuelo a París". The music video for this song was filmed in New York City. That same year, he released "Ojo por Ojo" on his birthday.

In 2018, Johann released the song "Nervioso", and its video was filmed in Japan. That year, he also became the first Ecuadorian artist to sing at an awards show in the United States. He performed his song "Astronauta" at Univision's Premios Juventud.

In 2019, he released "Ahogando". Johann himself directed and produced the music video. It was filmed in different places along the Ecuadorian coast. Two well-known Ecuadorian celebrities, Nathaly Quiñonez and Michela Pincay, appeared in the video.

On February 13, 2020, he released "Perdón". This was the song he sang at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival 2020, which is a very big music award show in Latin America. His performance earned him a "Gaviota de Plata" (Silver Seagull) award. Later that year, he released “En Donde Están”.

In 2021, Johann released “Me Tienes Mal” and “Inevitable”. "Inevitable" was one of the top songs in Ecuador for several weeks that year. The music video for "Inevitable" was filmed with his long-time friend Paula Galindo (also known as Pautips) at their old school in Colombia. Also in 2021, Johann finished filming for "Kally's Mashup ¡Un cumpleaños muy Kally!" and Club 57.

In 2022, Johann was inspired to create a new song for the FIFA World Cup that was about Ecuador. This song, “Donde Nací”, became very popular in the country. Ecuadorian fans used it as an unofficial cheer for their team. The song was used in thousands of TikTok and Instagram videos, including some by important Ecuadorian figures like Guillermo Lasso. It became one of the most viral songs of the season.
