John Abraham (born December 17, 1972) is an Indian actor and movie producer. He is famous for his roles in Hindi films, which are often called Bollywood movies. He is well-known for playing strong action hero characters.
For his work, John has received a National Film Award and has been nominated for four Filmfare Awards, which are major awards in India. Because of his success, he has been on Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list, a list of the most famous people in India, since 2017.
Before becoming an actor, John was a successful model. He started his acting career in 2003. He became very popular after starring in the action movie Dhoom (2004). He also acted in hit comedies like Garam Masala (2005) and Dostana (2008).
John has also starred in movies that were praised by critics, such as Water (2005) and New York (2009). Some of his biggest hits are action movies like Parmanu (2018), Batla House (2019), and Pathaan (2023). Pathaan is his highest-earning movie so far.
Besides acting, John produces movies with his company, J.A. Entertainment. His first movie as a producer, Vicky Donor (2012), won a National Film Award. He is also a co-owner of the Indian Super League football team NorthEast United FC. John is a vegetarian and speaks up for animal rights.

Early life
John Abraham was born in Mumbai, India, on December 17, 1972. His father is a Malayali Christian from Kerala, and his mother is an Irani Zoroastrian. John has a younger brother named Alan.
John grew up in Mumbai and went to the Bombay Scottish School. He later studied at Jai Hind College and earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. He considers himself a spiritual person but does not follow one specific religion.
Career
Modeling and First Movies (1999–2003)
John Abraham began his career as a model. He appeared in music videos for singers like Jazzy B and Hans Raj Hans. In 1999, he won a major modeling contest in India called the Gladrags Manhunt Contest. This led him to compete in the Manhunt International competition, where he finished in second place.
After his success, he modeled in cities like Hong Kong, London, and New York City. He also appeared in many TV commercials. To become a better actor, he took acting classes while he was still modeling.
In 2003, John made his first movie appearance in the thriller Jism. The movie was a surprise hit. In the same year, he also acted in the movies Saaya and Paap.
Becoming a Star (2004–2009)
In 2004, John played the main villain in the action movie Dhoom. The movie was a huge success and became one of the highest-earning films of the year. This role made him very famous.
In 2005, he starred in the comedy Garam Masala, which was another box office hit. That same year, he acted in the movie Water, directed by Deepa Mehta. The film was about the difficult lives of widows in India during the 1930s. Water was very popular around the world and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Over the next few years, he starred in successful movies like Taxi No. 9211 (2006) and Kabul Express (2006). In 2008, he acted in the hit comedy Dostana. His 2009 movie, New York, was also a big success.
Focus on Action Movies (2010–2019)
In the 2010s, John Abraham began to star in more action movies. He appeared in Force (2011), Race 2 (2013), and Shootout at Wadala (2013). He also acted in the popular comedy Housefull 2 (2012).
In 2013, he produced and starred in Madras Cafe, a serious drama that was praised by critics. He continued his success with the comedy Welcome Back (2015).
His action movies in the following years were also very popular. These included Dishoom (2016), Parmanu (2018), and Satyameva Jayate (2018). In 2019, he played a police officer in Batla House, which was based on a true story. The movie was a commercial success.
Recent Work (2020–Present)
In 2021, John appeared in the movies Mumbai Saga and Satyameva Jayate 2. In 2022, he wrote, produced, and starred in the science-fiction action movie Attack: Part 1. He also starred in the thriller Ek Villain Returns.
His first movie of 2023 was the action thriller Pathaan, where he acted alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. The movie was a massive blockbuster and broke many box office records. It became the highest-earning movie of John's career. Critics praised his performance as the villain.
In 2024, he starred in the action movie Vedaa. His other movies include Tehran and The Diplomat, which was released in March 2025.
Personal life
John Abraham is married to Priya Runchal, an investment banker from the United States. They met in Mumbai and got married on January 3, 2014.
John is known for being a fitness expert. He enjoys bodybuilding and lives a very healthy lifestyle. He is also a big fan of motorcycles and has a collection of sport bikes.
