John Dewar, 2nd Baron Forteviot OBE MC TD FRSE DL JP (1885–1947) was a notable Scottish businessman and soldier. He was the head of the famous whisky company Dewar's. He also led the Distillers Company and was a director at the Bank of Scotland.

Early Life and Education
John Dewar was born on 17 March 1885. He was the only son of Sir John Dewar, 1st Baron Forteviot and his wife, Johann Tod. His uncle was Thomas Dewar, 1st Baron Dewar. Young John went to Rugby School in England. This was a boarding school. Later, he studied at New College, part of Oxford University. However, he did not complete his degree there.
Military Service and Awards
During the First World War, John Dewar served his country. He was a colonel in the Scottish Horse Regiment. He fought in several important places. These included the Balkans, Gallipoli, and Egypt. For his bravery during the war, he was awarded the Military Cross. This is a special honor for military service.
Public Service and Later Life
After the war, John Dewar continued to serve the public. From 1922 to 1924, he was the Lord Provost of Perth. This is like being the mayor of the city. He also served as a Deputy Lieutenant for Perthshire. This role involves helping the monarch's representative in the area.
In 1929, his father passed away. John then inherited the title of Baron Forteviot. He also held the rank of brigadier in the Royal Company of Archers. This group acts as the official bodyguard for the monarch in Scotland. In 1943, he was chosen as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. This is a respected group of scientists and thinkers.
John Dewar died on 24 October 1947. He passed away at his country home, Dupplin. He is buried at Aberdalgie, which is near Perth. His grave is located within his family's private area at the back of the church.
Family Life
John Dewar married two times. His first wife was Marjory Winton Isobel Heaton-Ellis. They married in 1919. Sadly, Marjory passed away in 1945. In 1946, he married Marjory's sister, Mrs Muriel Cecil Harriette Cavendish. She was a widow at the time.
John did not have children with his wives. When he died, the title of Baron Forteviot passed to his younger half-brother, Henry Dewar, 3rd Baron Forteviot.
