John Morgan (born September 21, 1930 – died November 15, 2004) was a funny comedian from Canada. He was born in Wales.

John Morgan was known for his amazing comedy work. He helped create a very popular comedy group called the Royal Canadian Air Farce. This group made people laugh for many years on both radio and TV.

John Morgan's Comedy Journey

John Morgan was born in Aberdare, Wales. In 1970, he started a comedy group in Montreal called The Jest Society with his friend Martin Bronstein.

Later, in 1973, this group moved to Toronto. It then became the famous Royal Canadian Air Farce. They had a sketch comedy show on CBC Radio. On this show, John Morgan played many different and funny characters.

Playing Many Characters

When the Air Farce show moved to CBC Television in 1993, John Morgan played even more characters. He was known for playing:

  • Hector Baggley, a mortician (someone who prepares bodies for burial)
  • Amy De La Pompa, a fancy socialite
  • Jock McBile, a grumpy Scotsman
  • Mike from Canmore, who didn't say much

He also made funny, satirical (mocking) versions of real people. These included politicians like Herb Gray and Deborah Grey, and even the Russian leader Boris Yeltsin.

Writing for Radio and TV

John Morgan was also a talented writer. He wrote the first episode for a popular Canadian TV show called King of Kensington.

Before The Jest Society, he and Martin Bronstein created a CBC radio series. It was called Funny You Should Say That. John Morgan also had his own show on BBC Radio in the UK. It was named It's All in the Mind of John Morgan.

Awards and Recognition

John Morgan's comedy work earned him many awards. In 1998, he received a very special award. It was the Governor General's Performing Arts Award. He shared this award with the other original members of Air Farce: Roger Abbott, Don Ferguson, and Luba Goy. This award celebrates people who have achieved great things in the arts.

In 2000, he was also nominated for a Canadian Comedy Award.

Life Before Comedy

Before he became a full-time comedian in 1966, John Morgan had many different jobs. He worked as a journalist, writing for newspapers. He was also an editor, a teacher, and even owned a pub (a type of bar).

Later Life

John Morgan retired from the Air Farce show in 2001. He passed away on November 15, 2004, at his home in Toronto. He was 74 years old.
