Luba Goy (Ukrainian: Люба Ґой) is a famous Canadian actress and comedian. She is best known as one of the main stars of the popular comedy show Royal Canadian Air Farce. Luba Goy was born on November 8, 1945.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Luba Goy was born in Haltern, Germany. Her parents were from Ukraine. In 1951, her family moved to Canada. She grew up in Ottawa, Ontario.

Luba went to Glebe Collegiate Institute in Ottawa. Later, in 1969, she finished her studies at the National Theatre School of Canada. After school, she acted in plays in Stratford.

Joining the Comedy Scene

In 1971, Luba joined a comedy group called "The Jest Society." This group later became the well-known comedy show Royal Canadian Air Farce in 1973.

In the early 1980s, Luba Goy also hosted an educational TV show. It was about computers and called Bits and Bytes. She starred as herself alongside Billy Van. This show was made by TVOntario and shown on PBS stations in the United States.

Voice Acting and Awards

Luba Goy has lent her voice to many cartoon characters. She voiced Lotsa Heart Elephant, Treat Heart Pig, and Gentle Heart Lamb in the popular Care Bears cartoons.

Achievements and Honours

As part of the Air Farce team, Luba Goy has won many awards. These include 15 ACTRA awards and a Juno. She was also added to the Maclean's Honour Roll.

Luba Goy was one of the first Canadians to join the International Humour Hall of Fame. In 1993, she and her Air Farce castmates received special degrees from Brock University. In 1996, she won the Outstanding Achievement Award from Women in Film and Television.

In 1998, Luba Goy and her Air Farce friends received Canada's highest award in performing arts. This was the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.

Luba Goy has also done voices for many other animated TV shows. These include The Elephant Show, Babar, AlfTales, and Rupert. She also voiced characters in My Pet Monster, Sylvanian Families, and Tales from the Cryptkeeper.

Ukrainian Heritage and Performances

Luba Goy is proud of her Ukrainian background. She sometimes performs comedy shows that highlight her heritage. For example, in 1999, she was part of the Ukrainian pavilion at Folklorama. This is a cultural festival in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Luba Goy speaks the Ukrainian language very well. In 1990, she acted in a Ukrainian film called Vid'ma (Witch). She played an 18th-century innkeeper in the movie, which was filmed in Kyiv.

In 2011, she performed at the Toronto Ukrainian Festival. In May 2012, Luba Goy started her own one-person show. It was called Luba, Simply Luba and debuted at the Berkeley Street Theatre in Toronto.
