John Winter (September 8, 1967April 5, 2007) was a popular weather man for WFLA-TV, a TV channel in Tampa, Florida. He was known for making weather reports easy to understand and for his love of animals.

Early Life and Career

John Winter was born and grew up in Seminole, Florida. He went to Seminole High School and later studied weather at the University of Kansas, where he earned a special degree.

His first job as a TV weather man was at KGBT-TV in Harlingen, Texas. After working there for two years, he moved back to Florida in 1994. That's when he joined WFLA-TV in Tampa. John usually reported the weather in the mornings, but sometimes he would also do the evening reports. He was very good at his job and had a special "Seal of Approval" from the American Meteorological Society, which is a big deal for weather experts.

Helping the Community

Besides his work as a weather man, John Winter was also a business owner. He had a company called "Big U Media" with a friend from WFLA-TV. This company helped other businesses with their ads.

John was also a very kind person who cared about his community. He was part of a local charity group called The Rough Riders. This group helped underprivileged and sick children. They would visit homeless shelters and hospitals to give out teddy bears, bringing smiles to many faces.

A Friend to Animals

John Winter had a huge love for animals. Every hour during his morning weather reports, he would feature an animal that was looking for a new home. He did this to help local animal shelters find families for their pets. Because of his efforts, many animals found loving homes, and the adoption rate was very successful.

His Passing

John Winter passed away on April 5, 2007, at his home. His sudden death was a sad surprise to his co-workers and all the people who watched his weather reports every day.
