Seminole is a city located in Pinellas County, Florida, in the United States. It's part of the larger Tampa Bay area. In 2020, about 19,364 people lived here.

History of Seminole

People first settled in the Seminole area in the 1840s. This community got its name from the Seminole tribe. Members of this tribe still lived in the area at that time. Seminole officially became a city in 1970.

Geography and Location

Seminole is located in Florida at 27°50′19″N 82°47′6″W / 27.83861°N 82.78500°W / 27.83861; -82.78500. It is surrounded by other parts of Pinellas County. Nearby towns include Indian Rocks Beach to the northwest and Largo to the north. Pinellas Park is to the east, and St. Petersburg is to the south. Madeira Beach is to the west.

The main roads that go through Seminole are State Road 694 and Alternate U.S. Highway 19. The city also includes the southern part of Lake Seminole.

Land and Water Area

The United States Census Bureau says that Seminole covers about 14.6 square kilometers (5.6 square miles). Most of this area, about 13.2 square kilometers (5.1 square miles), is land. The rest, about 1.4 square kilometers (0.5 square miles), is water. This means about 9.58% of the city's total area is water.

City Parks

The Seminole Historical Society building is also nearby.
  • Orange Blossom Park is another city park along the Pinellas Trail. It has a new, large playground, a walking trail, a basketball court, and bathrooms.
  • Tennis Club Park is, as its name suggests, full of tennis courts for playing the sport.
  • Waterfront Park is the newest city park. It opened its playground in 2021. This park features a boardwalk along the water, a place to launch canoes and kayaks, a walking trail, and bathrooms.

Several Pinellas County parks are also close to Seminole. These include Lake Seminole Park, Boca Ciega Millennium Park, and Walsingham Park.

Seminole Community Library

The Seminole Community Library started in 1960. It works together with St. Petersburg College. This library is part of the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative. It offers books, resources, services, and programs for everyone in the community.
