Jonah Jacob Goldberg (born March 21, 1969) is an American writer, author, and political expert. He shares his ideas in newspaper columns and on TV. He is known for his conservative views, which means he often supports traditional ideas about government and society.
Goldberg helped start National Review Online in 1998. He worked there as an editor until 2019. He also writes a weekly column about politics and culture for the Los Angeles Times. In 2019, he became a founding editor of The Dispatch, an online news website.
He has written several popular books. His book Liberal Fascism was a New York Times bestseller in 2008. Another book, ... of the West, also became a bestseller in 2018.

Early Life and Education
Jonah Goldberg was born in New York City on March 21, 1969. His mother, Lucianne Goldberg, was a literary agent. His father, Sidney Goldberg, was an editor. Jonah was raised in a Jewish home.
After high school in 1987, Goldberg went to Goucher College in Towson, Maryland. He studied political science and earned his bachelor's degree in 1991. Goucher College used to be a women's college, and Goldberg was in the second group of men to attend.
While at college, he was very involved in student politics. He also co-edited the school newspaper, The Quindecim, for two years. He was one of the first men to run the paper. Later, he worked as an intern for several news companies.
Career Highlights
After college, Goldberg taught English in Prague for a short time. In 1992, he moved to Washington, D.C. He started working at the American Enterprise Institute, a research group. There, he helped with a nationally syndicated column and a book for Ben J. Wattenberg. He also worked on TV documentaries for PBS.
In 1994, Goldberg became a founding producer for the TV show Think Tank with Ben Wattenberg. He then joined New River Media, a TV production company. He worked on many TV projects in the United States, Europe, and Japan. He also wrote and produced two documentaries: Gargoyles: Guardians of the Gate and Notre Dame: Witness to History.
He joined National Review as a contributing editor in 1998. Later that year, he helped create National Review Online (NRO). He was the editor of NRO for several years.
Writing and Online Work
From 1998, Goldberg wrote a column twice a week for National Review. This column was also published in many other newspapers across the United States. He also wrote a column called "Goldberg File" for National Review. This column was often lighter and included humor and comments on culture. He often mentioned pop culture, like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica, which he enjoys.
Goldberg left National Review in May 2019. In 2020, he helped start The Dispatch. This is an online news publication that shares political and cultural analysis.

Goldberg's first book, Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, from Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning, came out in 2008. It became a number one bestseller on the New York Times list. Some historians have said the book is not very scholarly, but others found it thought-provoking.
His second book, The Tyranny of Clichés: How Liberals Cheat in the War of Ideas, was published in 2012. He also wrote ... of the West, which was a bestseller in 2018.
Personal Life
Jonah Goldberg is married to Jessica Gavora. She was a speechwriter for former Attorney General John Ashcroft. They have one daughter and live in Palisades, Washington, D.C..
His brother, Joshua, passed away in 2011. His father, Sidney, died in 2005. His mother, Lucianne Goldberg, passed away in 2022.
