History of Joppa
Joppa got its name from an old city called Jaffa. This city is located in a different part of the world.
Early Years and Census Records
In the early 1900s, Joppa was an official town. The U.S. Census counted its population from 1900 to 1920. After 1920, it was no longer listed as an official town. It didn't appear on the census again until 2010. That's when it became a census-designated place (CDP).
2011 Tornado Event
On April 27, 2011, a powerful tornado touched down near Joppa. This tornado was part of a very large storm system. It was called the 2011 Super Outbreak.
