Jordan Greenway, born on February 16, 1997, is an American professional ice hockey player. He plays as a forward for the Buffalo Sabres in the National Hockey League (NHL). The Minnesota Wild chose him in the second round of the 2015 NHL entry draft. He was the 50th player picked overall that year.

Jordan's Hockey Journey

Starting Young in Hockey

Jordan Greenway started playing hockey in his hometown of Canton, New York. He later moved to Minnesota to play high school hockey at Shattuck-Saint Mary's. After that, he joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (U.S. NTDP). This program helps young, talented players grow their skills. He played in the United States Hockey League (USHL) during the 2013–14 and 2014–15 seasons. His great play earned him an invitation to the 2014 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game. This game showcases the best young hockey players.

College Hockey and the NHL Draft

After being drafted by the Minnesota Wild, Jordan went to college. He played for the Boston University Terriers hockey team starting in the 2015–16 season. In his junior year, he was a top player. He earned a spot on the Hockey East Third All-Star Team. He also made the Hockey East All-Tournament Team.

Making it to the NHL

On March 26, 2018, Jordan signed his first professional contract with the Minnesota Wild. He made his NHL debut the very next day. Soon after, he played his first NHL playoff game. He even scored his first NHL playoff goal on April 15, 2018. That season, Jordan achieved something special. He became the first player to play in the Olympic Games, a college tournament, and the Stanley Cup playoffs all in the same year!

Developing in the Pros

Jordan started the 2018–19 season in the NHL. However, he was sent to the American Hockey League (AHL) for a short time. This helped him develop his skills even more. While in the AHL, he scored three goals in one game, which is called a hat trick! He was quickly called back up to the NHL. On October 29, he scored his first regular season NHL goal.

Moving to the Buffalo Sabres

On January 31, 2022, the Wild signed Jordan to a new three-year contract. However, during the 2022–23 season, he was traded. On March 3, 2023, the Wild sent him to the Buffalo Sabres. In return, the Wild received two draft picks. Jordan has been playing for the Sabres since then.

Playing for Team USA

Jordan Greenway has proudly represented the United States in many international competitions.

Winning Gold Medals

He helped Team USA win a gold medal at the 2014 World U-17 Hockey Challenge. He also earned another gold medal with Team USA at the 2015 IIHF World U18 Championships. Later, he won a third gold medal at the 2017 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.

Olympic History Maker

After his college season, Jordan joined the senior United States team. He played in the 2017 IIHF World Championship held in Germany and France.

On January 1, 2018, Jordan was chosen to play in the 2018 Winter Olympics. This was a very special moment. He became the first African-American player ever named to a US Olympic hockey team!
