Relatives Scott Drinkwater (brother)

Joshua Drinkwater (born 15 June 1992) is an Australian professional rugby league player. He plays as a halfback or five-eighth for Oldham RLFC in the RFL Championship.

He has played for several teams in his career. These include the St. George Illawarra Dragons and Wests Tigers in Australia's NRL. He also played for the London Broncos, Leigh Centurions, Catalans Dragons, and Hull Kingston Rovers in the Super League in England. Josh won the 2018 Challenge Cup with the Catalans.

About Josh Drinkwater

Josh Drinkwater was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. His family has German roots. He is the older brother of another rugby league player, Scott Drinkwater. Scott plays for the North Queensland Cowboys in the National Rugby League.

Josh started playing junior rugby league for the Terrigal Sharks. He then signed with the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles.

Josh's Rugby League Journey

Starting in Youth Competitions

From 2010 to 2012, Josh played for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles' National Youth Competition (NYC) team. This competition is for young players.

In 2012, he was Manly's top scorer in the NYC. He scored 137 points from 10 tries, 48 goals, and 1 field goal. In September 2012, he signed a two-year contract with the St. George Illawarra Dragons.

Josh made his first National Rugby League (NRL) appearance in 2013. He played for the St. George Illawarra Dragons against the Newcastle Knights.

He played in four games during his first year in the NRL.

Time with London Broncos

In February 2014, Josh moved to the London Broncos in England. He joined them for the rest of the season.

He scored 136 points for the London Broncos. However, the team only won one game that Super League season.

Joining Wests Tigers

On 5 November 2014, Josh signed a two-year contract with the Wests Tigers. He started playing for them in 2015.

He was signed as a backup player for the team's main halfbacks. Josh knew his role and was ready to play if needed. He made his Tigers' debut in July 2015 against the Parramatta Eels.

Moving to Leigh Centurions

On 17 May 2016, Josh left the Wests Tigers. He joined the Leigh Centurions in the Championship league in England.

Josh helped his new club get promoted to the top English rugby league division in 2016. He stayed with the Leigh Centurions for two years. He left after the team was moved down from the Super League in 2017.

Playing for Western Suburbs Magpies

For the 2018 season, Josh played for the Intrust Super Premiership NSW team, the Western Suburbs Magpies.

Winning with Catalans Dragons

On 24 April 2018, Josh signed a one-year deal with the Catalans Dragons. This team is based in France.

On 25 August 2018, Josh was part of a big win for the Dragons. They won the 2018 Challenge Cup Final against the Warrington Wolves. This was the club's first major trophy.

Josh played as a halfback in the game. He kicked four goals, helping his team win 20–14.

Playing for Hull Kingston Rovers

On 23 December 2018, Josh signed a one-year deal with Hull Kingston Rovers in the Super League. He was given the number 24 jersey for the season.

He made his first game for the club in a friendly match in January 2019. His team won 30–16. Josh made his first official appearance in February 2019. He helped his team win 18–16 against their rivals, Hull F.C..

Josh also won the 'Man of the Match Award' from Sky Sports for his great play. On 10 March 2019, he played his 100th career game. He scored his first try for Hull Kingston Rovers in April 2019.

Returning to Catalans Dragons

On 31 October 2019, it was announced that Josh was re-joining the Catalans Dragons.

On 9 October 2021, Josh played for Catalans in the 2021 Super League Grand Final. However, his team lost to St. Helens.

Time with Warrington Wolves

On 23 November 2022, Josh signed a two-year deal to play for Warrington. In 2023, he played 24 games for Warrington. The team finished sixth and made it to the playoffs.

In June 2024, Josh played in Warrington's 2024 Challenge Cup final game. They lost to Wigan. He played 23 games for Warrington in the 2024 season. The team reached the semi-finals before losing.

Joining Oldham RLFC

On 27 November 2024, it was announced that Josh had signed a one-year deal with Oldham RLFC. He will play for them in the RFL Championship.
