Falcón first tried to become president in 1859 as a rebel leader. However, his rebellion was stopped. He later became the official president in 1863. His time as president ended in 1868 because of a revolution led by General José Tadeo Monagas. After his presidency, Falcón moved to Europe. He passed away in Martinique in 1870. The Venezuelan state of Falcón is named after him.
