He held many big jobs, like being the Viceroy of Sicily and a Spanish Ambassador in Rome. He was also known as the 4th Consort Duke of Uceda because of his marriage.

Early Life and Family

Juan Francisco was the son of Alonso Melchor Téllez-Girón. From his father, he received the title of 3rd Count of La Puebla de Montalban. His mother was Juana de Velasco.

Important Roles and Achievements

Juan Francisco Pacheco had a very busy career. He was the Captain General of Galicia from 1682 to 1686. This was a high military and administrative position.

Viceroy of Sicily

Later, he became the Spanish Viceroy of Sicily from 1689 to 1696. He served under King Charles II of Spain. During his time as Viceroy, a huge 1693 Sicily earthquake happened. He also sent ships to attack places like Alger, Tunis, and Istanbul. These attacks helped reduce the number of pirate raids on Sicily.

Ambassador and Noble Titles

Juan Francisco also worked as an Ambassador in Rome, Italy. He served both King Charles II of Spain and King Philip V of Spain. He was a member of the Spanish State Council under King Philip V. He held many noble titles, including 1st Marquis of Menas Albas and Marquis of Belmonte. He was also a Chevalier of the French Order of the Holy Spirit and a Grandee of Spain. A Grandee was a very high-ranking noble in Spain.

Later Years and New Alliances

During the War of the Spanish Succession, Juan Francisco first supported Philip V of Spain. However, in 1710, he changed his support to the Austrians. He spent the last years of his life living in Vienna. There, he became a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece, which was a very respected Austrian honor. He also joined the Austrian Empire State Council under Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor.

Marriage and the Uceda Title

On July 16, 1677, Juan Francisco married Isabel María de Sandoval y Girón. She was also a Grandee of Spain and the 4th Duchess of Uceda in her own right. She was born in Madrid, Spain, on August 15, 1653, and passed away in Genoa, Italy, on July 23, 1711.

Because of this marriage, Juan Francisco became the 4th Consort Duke of Uceda. This means he held the title through his wife. It was common for noble families to pass on titles through both men and women.
