Juaquin Hawkins' Basketball Journey
Juaquin Hawkins had a long and interesting career in professional basketball. Even though he wasn't chosen in the 1996 NBA draft, he worked hard to play for many teams.
Early Career and Different Leagues
After the 1996 NBA draft, Juaquin signed with the Los Angeles Lakers. He even got to play alongside famous players like Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal. However, he was one of the last players cut from the team before the season started.
After that, Juaquin played for teams in different leagues around the world. He played for the Hung Fu Rams in Taiwan. He also played for the Long Island Surf in the United States Basketball League (USBL). In 1998, he played with the Los Angeles Clippers during their preseason games. He was again one of the last players to be cut.
Playing with the Harlem Globetrotters
In 1998 and 1999, Juaquin joined the famous Harlem Globetrotters. This team is known for combining amazing basketball skills with entertainment. It was a unique experience for him.
Moving to Other Professional Teams
After his time with the Globetrotters, Juaquin played for the Fort Wayne Fury in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He was teammates with Moochie Norris, who later also played for the Houston Rockets. He then played for the Southern California Surf in the ABA. Time with the Houston Rockets
Juaquin Hawkins finally made it to the NBA during the 2002–03 season. He signed with the Houston Rockets on September 30, 2002. He was one of the oldest "rookies" (first-year players) in the NBA at that time.
Making an Impact with the Rockets
Juaquin played in all 82 games for the Rockets that season. On November 22, 2002, he had one of his best games against the Washington Wizards. In that game, he scored 14 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and made 5 assists. He even started 10 games for the team that year. The Rockets just missed making the playoffs by one game that season.
