June Louise Squibb (born November 6, 1929) is an American actress. She started her acting journey on Broadway in the musical Gypsy in 1959. Her first movie role was in Woody Allen's romantic comedy Alice in 1990.

June Squibb became well-known for her supporting roles in movies like The Age of Innocence (1993) and About Schmidt (2002). She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film Nebraska (2013). In 2024, she starred in her first main role in the action comedy movie Thelma. She has also lent her voice to animated films such as Ralph Breaks the Internet (2018), Toy Story 4 (2019), Soul (2020), and Inside Out 2 (2024).

June Squibb was born in Vandalia, Illinois, on November 6, 1929. Her mother, JoyBelle, was a silent film pianist. Her father, Lewis, worked as an insurance agent.

June married Edward Sostek in 1953, but they divorced in 1959. Later that same year, she married Charles Kakatsakis, an acting teacher. They had a son named Harry, who became a filmmaker. June Squibb also changed her religion to Judaism in the 1950s. She believes that "rules are meant to be broken," especially when it comes to older actors in show business.

June Squibb's Acting Journey

June Squibb began her career by training at HB Studio and performing at The Muny. In 1951, she moved to Cleveland. There, she sang and danced at the Cleveland Play House. She appeared in many plays, including Marseilles and The Play's the Thing.

In the late 1950s, June and her second husband moved to New York City. She wanted to pursue a career on Broadway. She made her Broadway debut in 1959 in the musical Gypsy: A Musical Fable. She also appeared in The Happy Time on Broadway in 1968. This musical was nominated for a Tony Award. Besides acting, she also did modeling and performed on road tours and cruise ships. She even worked as Santa Claus's helper during Christmas!
