The History of Watrousville

  • Watrousville is another unincorporated community in the township. It is located at the crossing of M-81 and Ringle Road. This area has a cool history!
    • The first white settler, Patrick McGlone, arrived in 1851. He opened an inn, and people started calling the area "McGlone Corners."
    • In 1852, a man named Aaron Watrous came to work with a lumber crew. They were working on the Cass River.
    • Aaron Watrous built a mill here in 1853. He also helped plan the village.
    • He became the first postmaster in December 1855.
    • Watrousville was also a stop on a branch line of the Michigan Central Railroad. The post office in Watrousville closed in September 1935.
