Júlio César da Silva (born on March 8, 1963), known simply as Júlio César, is a former professional footballer from Brazil. He played as a centre-back, which is a defensive position in football. Throughout his career, he played for many teams in Brazil and Europe. He also proudly represented the Brazilian national team in big tournaments like the 1986 FIFA World Cup and the 1987 Copa América.

Júlio César's Football Journey
Júlio César started his football career in 1979 with a Brazilian club called Guarani. He was born in Bauru, in the São Paulo state of Brazil.
Playing in Europe
After playing well in the 1986 World Cup, Júlio César moved to Europe in 1986. He joined the French club Stade Brestois for one season.
French Adventures
The next season, he moved to Montpellier, another French team. He stayed there for three seasons. During his last season with Montpellier, in 1990, he helped the team win the Coupe de France, which is a major French cup competition.
Time with Juventus
In 1990, Júlio César moved to Italy to play for the famous club Juventus. He made his first appearance in Italy's top league, Serie A, on September 9, 1990. Even though he played well, his time at Juventus wasn't always easy. His biggest achievement with Juventus was winning the UEFA Cup in 1993. He played 125 games for Juventus and scored six goals.
Success at Borussia Dortmund
In 1994, Júlio César joined the German club Borussia Dortmund. He quickly found success there, winning the Bundesliga (Germany's top league) two years in a row. He also won the DFL-Supercup, another German trophy. In 1997, he was part of the team that won the UEFA Champions League, which is Europe's biggest club competition. He also won the Intercontinental Cup that same year. He stayed with Borussia Dortmund until 1999, though he had short loan spells with Botafogo in Brazil and Panathinaikos in Greece.

World Cup Moments
He played for Brazil in the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. He played so well that he was chosen as the Best Central Defender and was part of the tournament's "Team of the Tournament." However, in a memorable quarter-final match against France, the game went to a penalty shootout. Júlio César took a penalty kick, but his powerful shot hit the post. France then scored their next penalty and won the match.

The year after the World Cup, in 1987, he also represented Brazil in the 1987 Copa América tournament.
