History of KEDGE Business School
KEDGE Business School is quite new, but its history goes back a long way! It was formed in 2013 when two very old business schools decided to merge. These schools were Bordeaux Management School (BEM) and EUROMED Management in Marseille.
Here are some important dates in their history:
- 1872: The school that became EUROMED Management was founded in Marseille.
- 1874: The school that became BEM was founded in Bordeaux.
- 1968-1969: Both schools built new campuses to grow.
- 2001-2011: Both schools earned important accreditations like EQUIS, AMBA, and AACSB. These show they offer high-quality education.
- 2008-2015: The schools started opening new campuses in other countries like Senegal and China, and also in Paris, France.
- 2012: BEM and EUROMED decided to merge.
- 2013: KEDGE Business School was officially created from this merger.
- 2018-2019: KEDGE continued to expand its campuses and started new programs, like a PhD program.
What is a Grande École?
KEDGE Business School is known as a grande école in France. These are special higher education schools. They are different from regular universities. Think of them like very selective schools, similar to Ivy League universities in the USA or Oxbridge in the UK.
Getting into a grande école is very competitive. Many students who graduate from these schools go on to hold important jobs in business or government in France. The degrees from these schools are approved by the French Ministry of National Education.
French higher education degrees have three main levels:
- Licence: This is like a Bachelor's degree. It usually takes three years to complete.
- Master's: This degree comes after the Licence. It usually takes two more years.
- Doctorat: This is the highest degree, like a PhD.
Students earn credits for each course they take. These credits can often be transferred between different study paths.
