Kabetogama Lake is a large, clear lake in northern Minnesota. It is located in St. Louis County. This beautiful lake is part of Voyageurs National Park. It covers about 25,760 acres (104.2 square kilometers). This makes it one of the ten largest inland lakes in Minnesota.
Kabetogama Lake flows into Namakan Lake to the east. It runs almost side-by-side with Rainy Lake. Only a narrow strip of land separates these two lakes. The name "Kabetogama" comes from the Ojibwe language. It means "the lake that lies parallel with another lake." It can also mean "the lake that doubles with another lake." French fur traders also called it Travere, which means "alongside." The small town of Kabetogama is on the lake's south shore. It is a main entrance point for visitors to Voyageurs National Park.
