Karin Cecilie "Kaci" Kullmann Five (born April 13, 1951 – died February 19, 2017) was an important Norwegian politician. She was a member of the Conservative Party.

Kaci Kullmann Five served as a member of the Storting, which is the Norwegian Parliament, from 1981 to 1997. She also held a government position as the Minister of Trade and Shipping from 1989 to 1990. Later, she became the leader of the Conservative Party from 1991 to 1994.

After her political career, she worked in private business. She also ran her own consulting company. From 2015 until her death, she was the chairwoman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. This committee is famous for choosing who receives the Nobel Peace Prize.

About Kaci Kullmann Five

Kaci Kullmann Five was born Karin Cecilie Kullmann in Bærum, Norway. Her father was a dentist. She was known by her nickname "Kaci."

She finished high school in 1969. Later, she studied law, French language, and political science at the University of Oslo. In 1981, she earned a degree in political science. Before entering politics, she worked as a consultant for a business organization in Norway.

In 1972, she married Carsten O. Five. They had two children together. Kaci Kullmann Five passed away on February 19, 2017, at the age of 65.

Her Political Journey

Kaci Kullmann Five started her political career in local government. She was a member of the municipal council in Bærum from 1975 to 1981. During this time, she also served as a deputy leader for education decisions.

From 1977 to 1979, she was the first female president of the Norwegian Young Conservatives. This was a youth political group.

Serving in Parliament

Kaci Kullmann Five was a member of the Storting, the Norwegian Parliament, for 16 years. She served from 1981 to 1997. She held important roles within the Conservative Party. From 1982 to 1988, she was the Deputy Party Chairwoman.

Government Minister and Party Leader

From 1989 to 1990, she served as the Minister of Trade and Shipping. This meant she was a government minister responsible for Norway's trade.

In 1991, she was chosen as the leader of the Conservative Party. She led the party for four years, stepping down in 1994.

Life After Politics

After leaving parliament in 1997, Kaci Kullmann Five continued to be very active. She worked as a managing director for a company called Aker RGI until 2001.

From 2002 onwards, she worked as an independent consultant. She also joined the boards of several large companies and organizations. These included Statoil, which is Norway's biggest oil and gas company, and Radio Channel P4.

Her Role with the Nobel Prize

Kaci Kullmann Five played a significant role with the Nobel Peace Prize.

Norwegian Nobel Committee

In 2003, she was elected as one of the five main members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee. This committee is responsible for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize each year. She was re-elected several times and served on the committee until her death in 2017.

In March 2015, she was chosen by the committee members to be its new chairperson. This was a historic moment because it was the first time the previous chairman was replaced without retiring voluntarily.

Nobel Foundation Board

From 2009 to 2017, Kaci Kullmann Five was also a board member of the Nobel Foundation. This foundation is based in Sweden and oversees all five Nobel Prizes.
