General Kamal Hassan Ali (Arabic: كمال حسن علي; 18 September 1921 – 27 March 1993) was an important Egyptian leader. He was a brave military general and a skilled politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Egypt and played a key role in making peace between Egypt and Israel.

Early Life and Military Career

Kamal Hassan Ali was born in Cairo, Egypt, on 18 September 1921. He started studying medicine, but he decided to join the military academy instead. In 1942, he became an officer in the army's engineering team. He worked with the British Army during World War II.

He was involved in several important conflicts. These included the 1948 Arab–Israeli War and the Yom Kippur War. During the Yom Kippur War, he was the chief engineer for the Egyptian army. From 1973 to 1975, he was in charge of the Central Military Zone.

A Leader in Government

After his military career, Kamal Hassan Ali moved into government. From 1975 to 1978, he was the head of Egypt's main intelligence agency. This agency gathers important information for the country's safety.

Later, he became the Minister of Defense and Military Production. He served under President Anwar Sadat. This meant he was in charge of Egypt's armed forces and making military equipment.

Working for Peace

Kamal Hassan Ali also played a big part in peace talks between Egypt and Israel. These talks led to a peace treaty in 1979. This treaty was a major step towards peace in the Middle East.

From 1980 to 1984, he was the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary. This meant he was second-in-command to the prime minister and handled Egypt's relationships with other countries.

He became the Prime Minister of Egypt on 17 July 1984. He served in this top leadership role until 4 September 1985. After being Prime Minister, he became the head of the Egyptian-Gulf Bank in 1986. He also led Egypt's intelligence agency again from 1986 to 1989.

Later Life

Kamal Hassan Ali was married to Amal Khairy. They had three children together. He passed away in Cairo on 27 March 1993, at the age of 71. He was honored with a military funeral.
