Kamfiruz (Persian: كامفيروز) is a city located in Iran, specifically in the Fars province. It is the main city of the Kamfiruz District within Marvdasht County. Kamfiruz also acts as the administrative center for the Kamfiruz-e Jonubi Rural District.

Kamfiruz History

Kamfiruz has a long history. Some people believe that during the time of the ancient Persian Achaemenid Empire, there was an important political area south of where Kamfiruz is today. This area was known as Kyvprysh.

In 1640, a Friar named Dionysus wrote about Kamfiruz while he was in Shiraz. He mentioned that there were many people of Circassian origin living there. These people had been brought to the area by a former Shah of Persia about 25 to 26 years before Dionysus wrote his letter.

How Many People Live in Kamfiruz?

The population of Kamfiruz has been counted several times over the years.

  • In 2006, a national count showed that 2,530 people lived in the city, in 545 homes.
  • By 2011, the population was slightly lower, with 2,498 people living in 659 homes.
  • The most recent count in 2016 showed that the population had grown to 3,713 people, living in 1,057 homes.

Natural Beauty of Kamfiruz

The area around Kamfiruz is known for its beautiful natural landscape. It has unique features, especially near the villages of Mangan and Mhjn Abad. There are also cascades, which are like small waterfalls, called "valid water" south of Kamfiruz. These are popular attractions for visitors.

The region also has a large plain located south of Kamfiruz. This plain is surrounded by mountains covered with oak trees. You can also find many hot springs in this area.

Kamfiruz Landscape and Features

The plains south of Kamfiruz are quite wide and can be seen as both a valley and a plain. This area is located about 35 kilometers northwest of the ancient city of Persepolis. To the west, you'll find ancient Astkhry (wheat fields) and the area of Pasargadae. To the east are the Pillar of (white) and the Dena mountain range, which is in the south.

The plain is about 54 kilometers long and 30 kilometers wide. Persepolis is about 80 kilometers away. Kamfiruz is about 1,800 meters above sea level. This height gives it a moderate climate, meaning it's partly warm and partly cool.

The plains south of Kamfiruz are surrounded by several mountain ranges, including New Castle, Palngry, Qlatvn, Kvdyn, Hossein Abad, Dlkhan, and Ali auxiliary. These mountains make the plain look like a large tray. The total area of this large plain is about 994 square kilometers.

Kamfiruz Springs

Many springs flow from the mountains south of Kamfiruz. Here are some of the most important ones:

  • Anjireh Springs: These springs are located in the eastern part of the Kamfiruz area. They have a very pleasant climate and beautiful scenery, with many trees and wild flowers.
  • Bnar Seasonal Spring: This spring is located in the upper part of a peninsula with the same name, northeast of Khanymn Haji Abad village. After heavy rains, this spring flows until late spring. However, if the yearly rainfall is less than 300 millimeters, the spring might not flow.
  • Qdhy Springs: These springs flow from the slopes of the Aliabad Upper mountains and provide water all year round.
  • Spring Fox: This spring is found in a narrow valley and offers beautiful views with waterfalls.
  • Warm Springs: There are also several warm springs in the area.

Kamfiruz Agriculture

The villages south of Kamfiruz are built along both sides of the river. The eastern side of the river has less land for farming, but the western side has more land.

In total, there are about 12 hectares of farmland south of Kamfiruz. About 8,000 hectares of this land are used for growing rice. Farmers in this area can typically harvest about 4 tons of local Champa rice from each hectare of land.
