Karkoo is a quiet place. The main town part has only a few homes. It has a community hall for events. There is also a Country Fire Service station. This helps keep everyone safe. For shopping, people go to nearby Cummins.
Karkoo's History
Karkoo Primary School opened in 1909. It was first called the "Hundred of Shannon School". In 1937, its name changed to Karkoo. The school closed at the end of 2010. This happened because there were not enough students.
The Karkoo Post Office opened on April 1, 1933. It helped people send letters and packages. The post office closed on April 29, 1988.
Getting Around Karkoo
Karkoo is connected to other towns. The Tod Highway runs through it. This road goes south to Port Lincoln. It also goes north to Lock. Karkoo also has a narrow gauge railway line. This is part of the Eyre Peninsula Railway.
